Hi, We are just about to start out on our first main trip in new caravan, we are likely to be away for up to 4 months. What is the best way of keeping a spare set of caravan and car keys? If anyone has any suggestions would be appreciated.
We have a length of bright orange ribbon attached to the keys, so either hang around our neck or if in the pocket & you drop them they are easier to see.
Those cheap locks, don't bother, a Bosch 10.8v angle grinder will cut through 60 X 3mm steel tube in two minutes. Second cut 4 minutes. Third cut 7 minutes.

I've used those magnetic ones but it got ripped off in the bush by scrub
I now screw one to a secret spot on the van. So secret that I've forgotten where it is :)
I keep a set of van keys in the in the car and a set of car keys in the van
Funnily enough, I've never lost one other than the magnetic one fitted to the chassis
If all else fails, have you noticed that the perspex windows on most modern caravans are secured by thin plastic closure devices?
Shove a screwdriver in the gap & lever it & it''ll probably spring open easily.
A few strips of gaffer tape will hold it in place until you get home.
I keep a spare car and caravan key in a ziplock bag tucked away in one of the van's external storage compartments, this compartment is not usually locked but if it happens to be it'll be easy to force open with minimal damage.
I do not consider would-be thieves are likely to spend time searching the van for keys but rather to use a large screwdriver or the like to lever open the door or a window. Caravans have virtually zero security so it's not worth going to extensive trouble to secure spare keys.

if they are carrying a a " bosh 10.8 v angle grinder " security wise you loose.
but if you are just wanting a safe ,secure ,simple solution, to securing a spare set of keys in the remote chance you lock yourself out or loose a set of keys or just want to go to the beach ect with no pockets some good simple ideas posted .
I use a magnetic key holder hidden on the van chassis rail (door key) other keys are different and a spare set is hidden in the van, a spare car key is hidden underneath the vehicle.
If you look under the rear of your car you will probably see wires running through, place a key in a waterproof bag and securely tape it to a wire, remove battery if it has one.
