A very good app. for your phone is "Windy", it is not only a great weather map but also shows lightening and lots of other weather information in Australia and really good wind directions and speed.
I have used this a lot when travelling to help determine the best time to hit the road so as not to have to compete against too much breeze.
When lightening hits anywhere in Australia, zoom in and your phone actually vibrates and flashes at that location.
