Ice Maker device

Happy New Year everyone!

We have found a nifty little device for making ice cubes, perfect for caravans, available at Howards Storage World. It consists of a plastic ice mould with rubbery sides which pulls open (left photo) and closed (right photo). First you close the device, open the white plug in the top (see photo 2) and fill it with water. Then you freeze it. When frozen you twist the device and give it some good thumps to break up the ice cubes. Then you open up the plug, pull on the two handles on either side to open the device to its expanded size. The ice cubes are then easily poured out of the plug hole and are kept neatly in the device. No messy open trays of cubes. The device can be kept in any orientation when freezing and when expanded so no messy slopping of water in a crowded freezer compartment. We use two devices to keep one being frozen while the other is being used. The white handles slide down making a compact device.

Good one.
We use plastic bags available from the supermarket especially made for making ice blocks.
Fill them with water and freeze. They are self sealing. Break out an ice block as you need it. Single use, but no waste space.
Cheers,
Peter

Concept appears to be OK but being made of a Silicone Rubber material it would insulate to water taking more time and energy to freeze - we use aluminium tray that came with dometic fridge. Note we only fill 3/4 to top to avoid spillage when travelling.

Love the concept, but does seem a bit bulky for when opened

We got this little ice tray at a c/van show some years ago, wasnt cheap, but mention compact, convenience or caravan and prices just seem to go up

As fridge is fired up before we leave home, freezing time is not an issue. We refill at night so less chance of travel spillage, but  lid does stop any leakage while travelling

We also have a normal size normal plastic ice tray we use if parked up for a period,  no travel, no spills

You can get 12 volt and 240 volt ones, that make as much ice as much as you want. I saw the 12 volt one in operation at another campers site recently. It is 5 litres in size, and during the day, the camper runs it off his 140 watt solar panels, and just uses cooling mode at nite. He is a straight with ice always whiskey drinker. It was only $200, but I forget where he said he got it from.
