What a frightening ordeal to have to go through!

This is a fascinating podcast of a couple's ordeal with hoons at a campsite. You must listen to it!

The only problem I have with the podcast is the quietness of the host compared to the loudness of the guest speakers.

Yes, difficult to hear him. I feel very sorry for that couple camp hosting at Cosy Corner, what a nightmare that turned in to. The local yobbo's responsible should be hung drawn and quartered.

I met Julie & Steve in Carnarvon early Sept this year. Julie related this story to me whilst sitting around the campfire. I was horrified to hear what had happened to them. Julie also put me on to this website site. Wherever you are Julie & Steve I hope you are enjoying yourselves. Stay safe and keep on travelling.

Wrong Place, Wrong Time

Poor people.

Unfortunately there will always be w@nkers in this world and the best thing to do is avoid them and simply move on, some S&J could not really do.

Such stories, although rare, are part of the reason why I think firearms for personal protection should be legal in this country.

In the bush you need to be your own law.

Whilst that experience was an absolute nightmare for those people I can't help but wonder,

Arm the innocent, arm the offenders also Mike?

Test and licence people to carry a firearm for self defence - we already do that for hunting/target firearms, security guards etc. and that works well.

People such as the fire bombers in the podcast *know* their victims are defenceless, they may have a slightly different concept of whether such a violent action was wise if they thought they may be shot whilst burning others to the ground.

As things stand currently in Australia: we are all totally defenceless when in the bush and I really hope that is not what my friends Russell and Carol discovered.

Rather than arming yourself with weapons I think a better strategy would be to arm yourself with automatic video cameras and make it clear that everything is being recorded. That way the potential offenders may think better about attacking the innocent and being identified to police.

Violence will only ever breed more violence.

In my experience; when "civilians" are videoing persons with criminal intent, the party with the camera/phone is then attacked more ferociously when the offenders attempt to confiscate the recording device.

It is better to not antagonise vicious thugs and be compliant to demands, if unable to safely extract yourself.

Although the above is recommended actions, I do agree with Mike regarding firearm ownership and use.

I run camera on my bike these days due to two rear accidents up in QLD, and although I gave details of the perps and their rego, the police wanted video evidence. My camera is in place on the dog trailer, and you really cannot discern it. I also don't tell anybody that they are being recorded, even if you are supposed to. Have had one very close call from QLD trucky in NSW recorded, and he was booked for it. So camera's can help. Just don't make it obvious that you are recording them.

Cops should have taken names and addresses ,especially if this low life mob were threatening to come back for revenge

Maybe they did but unless there is substantial evidence the cops can't do too much .

He said , she said , is not good enough.

I reckon campsites that have caretakers should have CCTV also.

Well Im sure that if one or both poor people had died in the fire , there woul have been 100 detectives there plus 100 other police ,,and the culprits would have been found if they had names and addresses or not , but because no one hurt , too hard box

J..us , I am getting sick and tired of people picking on other people, someone starts it, sometimes the receiver, walks away, sometimes after copping flak they fire back, but whatever is happening here on all these chat forums, it is getting me down. Argumentative people, I am suggesting if you want to throw flak at someone, do it thru the PM/DM system. We've all had a terrible 2 years, everybody is under the gun at work, and everybody is throwing flak at everybody else everywhere else, FFS, grow up. I come here for enjoyment, to relax and unwind, not to be spat on or see same done to others. I can see the writing on the wall for me, to avoid the various Chat sections of forums. PLEASE PEOPLE IF NOT FOR YOURSELVES, THEN FOR ME, TRY AND KEEP IT CIVIL.
