Travel from Qld to SA

Hi

looking to go from Qld to SA would prefer tarmac only. What is the quickest route, Are you able to just transit through Nsw.  Was a G2G needed to enter SA At this time.  Any information will be good as we try to navigate our way into WA

Cheers

Scoota

Scooter, Unfortunately the rules are changing daily The quickest route to WA would be going through NT - If you need to travel through the COVID States - you could be delayed and quarantined at Borders - Each State has their own website that lists their restrictions - a moveable feast at best.

Cliff,

Google SA Covid border restrictions and it is all laid out clearly there.

At present I think you still need to apply for a pass, and travel ex NSW may still be problematic.

Tarmac only quickest, if you are in SE Qld, would be via Broken Hill, but refer to restrictions I mention.

It is possible to travel from Qld to SA on sealed roads. If the permit is valid for 24 hrs only, you could go from Cunnamulla to Broken Hill via Bourke and Cobar. Total distance to the border is about 900 km, but they are good roads and there isn't much in between to slow you down. It would be a long hard drive.

According to todays Advertiser there are many SA residents waiting to get home in NSW and Vic ( no mention of Qld) even having a double jab. So I would waiting in Qld until you get the OK from SA health (who seem to have a big backlog waiting approval) B4 you leave Qld.

Thanks all for info. We are starting from Brisbane. So it sounds like it could possibly go pear shaped. I might then look into going via Strezlicki track, dont mind the dirt just thought it may have been a lot easier transiting through Nsw. I think we need to set a date and then apply and go from their.

We drove from Brisbane to Adelaide in August and due to some materials I had purchased, needed to stay on the bitumen.
We drove via Mount Isa and Alice Springs, some 4,500km in 11 days (including getting covid tests in Coober Pedy, as required).
At that time, the border was closed to traffic in both directions near Innamincka. It was possible to go via Birdsville, but SA required a covid test on the day after crossing the border and the closest was leigh Creek.
Get onto the web sites of NT and SA and understand the requirements.
Cheers,
Peter
