Can someone please guide me to what the best bike covers are for 2 mountain bikes hitched to a tow bar on the back of a motorhome? Look for good hardwearing and waterproof.
In my experience bikes on the back of vehicles get quickly wrecked due to dirt and grime combined with the constant vibrations, no matter what covers you put on them.
Cheers,
Peter
Yes, I know thank you, that's why I'm asking which is the best in most durable if anyone has had experience with it. It's still better than leaving them uncovered. :)
I suggest not.
If you want to take care of them, put them on the roof where the air is cleaner.
Friends carry folding bikes which travel in an enclosed locker. Nothing else was effective.
Cheers,
Peter
As you are going to be carrying 2 bikes, you may get away with a motorcycle cover, and just strap it down well, the other thing you could do, if you are quite financial, is to have a fibreglass case made, so go to a a boat builder to build one. It wouldn't be cheap, but would be the best way. Maybe even a lightweight aluminium case built instead. Alternatively, have fold up bikes, that you can carry in a boot somewhere, like the Tern versions.

A light weight fully enclosed box would certainly do the trick, but however you do it be clear that they form part of the overhang of the vehicle which must not exceed 60% of the wheel base behind the rear axle. Cheers, Peter
EDIT - typo fixed, thanks Yobarr.

Thank you Peter, Whenarewethere and Bicyclecamper. I'll take on board your tips and see what I can source. Cant put the bikes on top of motorhome as it's 3.4m high. Will look into motorbike covers as will be too heavy with aluminium frame and can't afford a fibreglass case. Cheers guys and safe travels. :)
Have had a bike on the back of the van open to all weather and I find if everything is lubricated it appears to work. Will take the bike for a ride tomorrow and see what happens.
