The ones with chainlink fences and security gates - even then lock everything up.

We've stayed at the Temple Bar caravan park a number of times, about 15 mins out of Alice, Temple Bar Caravan Park, 875 Ilparpa Rd, Arumbera NT stunning location, security no problems, reasonable rates.

Well worth a look.smile

Not exactly in Alice Springs but about 80 km east is Ross River Resort. Sealed road all the way and a lovely bush style campground. Powered and unpowered sites, good amenities and a restaurant/ bar. We loved it.

Blatherskite Park - the Showgrounds. Powered or unpowered is good value.

We were up in Alice a couple of years ago and stayed at the truck museum far enough from town nice and quiet and half the price of the gated caravan parks Cheers

My choice too - but if you have kids and need jumping castles and slippert slides etc,

the showground is my choice for half the price.

$40 + is simply a rip-off. Very un-Australian. And opportunistic.

They won't be so ****y in non China virus times!!

The last time we were in Alice Springs was in 2017, so a few years ago.
We could only stay at the Showgrounds when the caravan parks were full. When we were staying at the showgrounds you could pick your spot and hook up to power. If you want to use their amenities check out the different amenity blocks (when we were there one lot of amenities was much nicer and modern than the other but that could have changed by now). When we weren't allowed to stay at the showgrounds we stayed at Heritage CP. Cheers.

We stayed at the Transport Museum. It was fairly basic, but well priced. A few kilometers out of town, but I would stay there again. The museum of old trucks and more is really quite good.

We also freecamped at an unofficial camp at Honeymoon Gap. It's about 15km west of Alice, on Bullen Rd, 1km off Larapinta Drive. Some 4WDs camped on the sand of the dried up river bed. Maybe we were lucky, but we had no incidents while there. I note it's not listed on Wikicamps, so maybe it's no longer accepted.

Depends what you are looking for
Last year I stayed in
Alice Springs Heritage Caravan Park, fully fenced, with the usual facilities (although a little warn out) Campsites set out nicely, not to close to each other, with good ambience, minimal grass sites, lovely staff
I also stayed in G'DAY Mate Caravan Park, fully fenced, with the usual but newer facilities but soo many cabins and some camp sites very close to each other. Grassed or gravel sites, lovely staff
