......do you run gas in your van .......if you only stay in caravan parks is it needed to run gas in your caravan .......is there anyone on here running without gas in the van.........i know some people say gas is quick to cook with but time is not worry when your away .......... i have a 2 burner electric hot plate given to me and thought i might put it in the van in place of the gas cooker .........i wonder is it worth doing .....
We are only in a car so space is out limitation. So electricity for fridge at up to 15AH per 24 hours & metho for cooking with a touch of water in it to stop blackening.
We use to use a lighter fuel stove, still got it, but we are happy with metho even though it is a bit slower & it has far more safety issues.

There is no gas in my van.Diesel heater for water, and as a space heater for whole van, while everything else is electric, including 2.5kw reverse cycle AC unit. All run off batteries, and I NEVER visit van parks, preferring to be out in the bush.I also use an induction cooker, which is VERY fast.Cheers
Use gas for hot water (the HWS doesn't have a 240v element) & run the fridge on gas during traveling stops for tea breaks or lunch.
Rarely use the gas range for cooking. Too slow. I prefer to cook outside on a double propane cooker. We do have a 240v hotplate that gets frequent use for pasta or things requiring longer cook times.
Since getting two induction cooktops, we cannot go back to gas or standard electric hot plates. Standard electric hot plates take ages to heat up before you can start cooking, and gas hobs have no control whatsoever over temperature. So we only use electricity for all our needs such as air conditioning, hot water, cooking, etc., when in caravan parks. We only use gas when we are off grid at National Parks etc. I'd like to convert our caravan to electricity only so we can seal it totally against dust, but since we are only 13' long it is difficult to get enough solar panels to run everything.
Hi Vince. In the van there's a 5kw Victron,while the car has 2kw Victron.Van has 1650 watts solar,but only 190 watts on the car.Cheers
p How do you physically fit that many panels on a caravan? Must be a 40 ft van. Lol
Had 9x190 watts (1710 watts) in this photo, with plenty of room for Sat TV,4 seasons hatch, and vent above ensuite. Now have 6x275 watt because stones on development road broke a couple of panels, and I could find no replacements.(Too old). The 275s are making more power than the old 190 monos, and batteries are always back to 100% before 10am.Car still has the old 190 watt because it was a special build, and is an odd shape, being almost square! Cheers
