Dare to surmise that this is the reason for AstraZeneca promotion?

From a USA newsletter:

Pfizer now anticipates revenue from the two-dose vaccine this year to reach
$33.5 billion for the 2.1 billion doses it's contracted to provide by year end.

No wonder Slo-Mo wants us to get the  AlkaSeltzer!!!

My little calculator won't calculate the per shot cost!

About $15.95 (or thereabouts) per shot

I stand to be corrected, as I do not usually handle that amount of cash

Could the PM be promoting Astra Zeneca as it is the only one we have plenty of and has proven to be very effective worldwide against Covid, yes they were slow to get it going here but hesitation in getting the jab is costing us billions and disrupting our once free society.
Get the Jab I say!! and quickly!

I missed it a bit - was still sleeping in, but on a radio program the prices were something like
$90 for Phizer and $20-something for AstraZenica.

Hence I surmise the reason for the AZ promotion.

A bit difficult to get to the full truth about things these days.
Here in Qld we have had complete about-face information from
our so-called health departments on a disturbingly regular basis.

I love information from a quoted reliable resource.

So if the above is fact then do we say that our Prime Minister and his department is being frugal with Australian tax payers money or do we accuse him of penny pinching.

From what I have observed Australians were denied a supply of Pfizer back in March from the EU, AFTER we had placed the order.

This major supply is reported to become available in October this year.

The older people that are insisting on waiting for the Pfizer without a valid reason, apart from what they read on social media, are really a part of the problem.

Agreed 100% Rob.So many people draw illogical conclusions based on 'information' gained from the crap found on social media, and other super-reliable sources. These people then bleat and moan to anyone silly enough to listen, without bothering to determine the truth.Calling our excellent Prime Minister Slo-Mo is an example of someone having nothing intelligent to say,but being happy to criticize without offering a viable alternative course of action.Without offering an alternative strategy, such bleating and moaning is worthless, and to be ignored. What part of "There WAS no  vaccine available" is too difficult to understand? Too much thinking involved, perhaps.Cheers

I agree Yobarr, so many people are just using the little information they get and don't see the bigger picture. I think Scomo is doing an excellent job with all the consultations.
During my younger working days, i used the following: "The size of the thing that upsets a man normally reflects the size of the man".
Let us all be big enough to realise that the world has a problem with Covid.
The pharma companies paid millions if not billions to develop the vaccines, they are entitled to a financial reward.
I am sorry, but we do not live in a communist country.

Respect the work that the medicos are doing, and political leaders take advice because they are not specialists.

I am happy that my wife and I have had or AZ vacs.

Have a great day and safe travels.

I believe that was AZ, not Pfizer.

I think that maybe the *devil is in the detail*

The EU is denying that they blocked the supply of the AZ.

Now that is probably true because they actually blocked the supply of Pfizer back in March as was reported at the time. As reported it involved Italy and France seconding the available supply of that brand.

I am only quoting what was reported at the time but without trawling back through old news stories it is now hard to dispute accurately.

It was the UK that then propped up Australia's supply of a vaccine and that vaccine was AZ. This was done secretly so that Britain did not upset the EU.

From memory I posted a link to a news story in another topic on this forum which covered at least parts of the detail.

Having said all of this I will stand to be corrected if in fact the news reports at the time were inaccurate or if I have miss understood them.

I just found a link to previous news report.

There is certainly a grey area with regard to vaccine manufacturers.
The opening few sentences make mention of the distribution of both brands being controlled by the EU.

My thoughts are, due to the need for *diplomacy* we will never know the defining truth.

AstraZenica is manufactured in Australia. We all carry on about supporting Australian manufacturing but when the government does it everyone wants to downplay it.

Australia does not currently have the infastucture or equipment to manufacture the Pfizer jab. It was deemed that to get it would take too long. Also it has supply issues due to the fridgeration it requires for storage. Despite all the hype about AZ and the clotting issues, Pfizer is not without its issues as well. However that sort of reporting does not suit the woke or far left media to report accurately.

??? Most of the antivaxxers seem to come from the conservative and far right side of politics. None of the "leftist" media in this country are hiding the fact that both vaccines have their problems. If Youtube's current ban against Sky News is any guide, it seems to be only Murdoch's media which are contributing to vaccine hesitancy.

Sorry but I have not heard anything about the Pfizer issues on any of the mainstream media TV or radio, left right or centre! Even all the Australian state top government appointed medical experts have stated issues with AZ at some point or other. None have said anything about Pfizer side effects. I had to read it from Medical journals. All the hype about AZ issues has lead many (not including anti vaxers) to not want the AZ and are holding out for Pfizer. I have 3 friends all with a medical background and (quals) of sorts, waiting for more Pfizer.

I get my primary news from the ABC. I know that Pfizer's side effects include myocarditis and pericarditis.

Last week a neighbour in her 30s got her first PZ. She said she was a wreck, basically in bed for a few days.

Another neighbour got their PZ recently & no issues.

Misinformation peddled on social media sites and forums have done more to spread hesitancy than the media with it's constant barrage of conflicting opinions, the ABC are one of the worst offenders, and of course the sheeple lap it up.biggrin

Politicians dont help !! Look at the BS they have to Victoria. Dan should leave from fed and NSW gov ! Well ? Look now !! Whats happening in NSW ? Should the premier retire ! They ALL should STOP the politics and do their job ! Including Sco of his preaching !! A lot of the BS earlier was between the two vaccine companies also . Heart issues seems an issue with Pfizer . Vaccines are still safer than walking down the street though ! I got my Astra first shot weeks ago a few sniffles but I have been up North Queensland back to South NSW coast where its colder !! Normal
For me to get sniffles in cold !

I have wondered why COVID-19 doesn't seem to produce the same clotting and heart problems as the vaccines, given that the vaccines are supposed to mimic the actual virus.

But it seems that clotting and heart problems are in fact associated with the disease:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2021-08-07/delta-variant-of-covid-19-causing-heart-problems-young-people/100352868

Professor Kovacic said one of Delta's side effects could include inflammation of the heart, known as myocarditis.

In severe cases, myocarditis can weaken the heart, and lead to heart failure, abnormal heartbeat or sudden death.

It can also lead to blood clots, which commonly start in the legs and then move up to the heart or lungs.

People don't need to be critically ill, or have underlying heart conditions, to be affected and Professor Kovacic said he had seen several COVID-19 patients die this way.

On just about every coronavirus page at the ABC web site there is a link to this article:

How to talk to friends and family feeling unsure about COVID-19 vaccines:

https://www.abc.net.au/news/health/2021-03-29/coronavirus-vaccines-concernes-conversation-guide/100018588

Can you say the same for the conservative media?

The ABC has Dr Norman Swan.

Sky "News" has Dr Alan Jones and Dr Craig Kelly.
