Just wondering if anyone has any feedback to share about their new hybrid van/ camper. We love our Jayco journey outback but we are just seeing lots of the new hybrid vans on the road and are starting to think about a new van. Hope you are all having a ball on the road. cheers
We have an Emu Explorer hybrid and we've travelled in it just for a few short months. We love it. The bed is super comfortable, we have an ensuite and lots of storage space. We love the outside kitchen because it still has that camping feel. Our kitchen is outside under a flap on the side. Others have a pull out kitchen but I've been told that the wind often blows out the gas. Our rig is off road and handles the rough roads very well. The only issue we have had is that dust got inside the van so check the seals. Lastly, the salesman in Perth is excellent and very knowledgeable. His name is Josh from Eagle Outdoors.
Good luck.
Sorry! Emu Expedition is correct! I think they are all made in China and finished off here. We bought ours through Josh Heylen at Eagle Outdoors in Perth. He was so helpful and has been great for follow ups and any questions we have had.
Im seeing so many on the road now, where they werent around 2 or 3 years ago. Ive spoken to a few owners whenever I get the opportunity and to be honest, havent yet found anyone whos disappointed. The few Ive looked closely at are just great for 2 people (2 had actual King beds!)and they all seem to come in under 3 tonne ATMs with heaps of payload, the couple I checked closely, had Tares of 1900-2050 and ATMs of 2800 and 2900kgs respectively, so, ample payloads and easy to tow for a dual cab with 3500 towing capacity. No more concerns regarding being overloaded GVM/GCMs etc.
Both the ones I looked at closely, the shells were assembled in China, then imported here and locally constructed chassis and suspensions fitted, then fitted off with the gas, electrics (Enerdrive systems in both) and the usual Dometic stove, pull out kitchens etc. Both had full composite walls, roof and floor, and according to the owners were well insulated and nicely appointed. Gone are the days for me of worrying the thing isnt made in Campbellfield Victoria. Hell, weve all seen and heard some absolute horror stories of locally made vans. The quality I saw in these was well and truly up to par for me. These smaller off road hybrids are definitely the way of the future I reckon
