Coffee Shops in LOCKDOWN

Went for a drive this afternoon and decided  it was coffee time , as we pulled up outside cafe, one girl was taking flags down about 3 people lined up in shop to order i made number 4, girl barista looks up and said we are closed! myself and 2 others waiting said oh cant you serve us , answer were closed.  as we walked out 2 other families were about to come in  we advised them likewise.  .  I felt pretty irate and thought well business must be pretty good to turn customers away when you see the shops that have been forced to close for Covid reasons . That cafe needs to realize how fortuneate they are in this climate to be able to kick customers out. Am i unreasonable in thinking this way?

Yes you are being unreasonable.

At what point DO they close? You said after you there were 2 more families coming in. So, to serve the two in front, then you, then the 2 families, and then maybe another 2 families come in? And another?

Being a Sunday, the pay rates are pretty high. Did you ask if serving you would have meant double pay for them?

If you had worked a hard day, and were looking forward to quitting time, would you happily keep working until customers stopped coming? There are all sorts of reasons to impose a closing time.

If I owned the cafe' I would in all likelyhood have served all waiting customers, because I am used to working outside of normal hours, as are many self employed, and Emergency Services personnel - and always chasing a buck. Even as an employee of a cafe' I believe I would have served all waiting customers.

maybe the shopping precinct is strictly controlled ie like Westfields, where they are extremely harsh on their tenants regarding trading times.

On the other hand if I had already powered down my bain marie, expresso machine, unpacked cake display - I would have said sorry Guys we're closed.

We don't know the circumstances of the "shop girl" or the circumstances of the shop owner - so it becomes a mute point.

When we had a business and wanted to go home at the end of a long day, and had a shop full still, we would lock the door and put the closed sign over.

Then work through the customers one by one and let them out the same, one at a time with their order.

Worked for us as you can see the end in sight.

Cheers Bob

If we can't buy a coffee when traveling, we grind our own beans, easy!

In Manly looks like a lot of people simply wandering around, going into clothes shops, two dollars shops.

I walked to Manly to get my forced exercise, buy some food, & walk home.

I've always had much sympathy with the Michael Douglas character :)
