Brass monkey weather.....,

Whaaaaaat ! Todays maximum is predicted to be 13 deg c on the south west corner..., bloody hell..., there's brass monkey knocking on my door looking for a welder !
Almost unheard of ! Those in S.A. and Vicco shouldn't laugh as those very same cold air low cells, that are done with us..., are forming up into a single big Low Cell..., with fronts spinning/whipping off from the centre like rampant spokes on a wayward bicycle wheel..., are heading east and gaining strength..., arriving in a few days..., batten down the hatches !

Brass monkeys over here in N E VIC as well. I'm near Wangaratta and even now at 8.45am it is -2c. A top of 15c is expected but might not reach that, time will tell. That's normal for N E VIC this time of year though. The bright green pool noodles have been put on the water hose from tap to aluminium teepee already. Hope you are keeping warm further north Craig1?

Doug, Why aren't you in Townsville Heights?

Hi all ; Yes a bit cold over here in Tassie @ present it's 6.5 degrees outside with no wind and the weather has settled in for the next few days. My ass is spending more time in front of the wood heater, but you have to make the best of it. Last week we spent 7 days down camping in the caravan down near Sorell. Rain and fog that did not lift for 4 days, wood fire at the camping spot, beer and wine for the girls and a diesel heater in the caravan. Collected 90 Litres of rain water from the awning in 12 hrs. Totally different climate from were we used to live ( Mildura ). And yes more wet weather over the next few days.

Yeah, but the trouble is you're in Queensland. Just joking, I personally prefer Western Queensland though.

Oberon gets bitterly cold Possum but I think to complete the Grand Slam one needs to spend some time in the main street of Goulburn when the wind comes up, a night in Blayney, followed by a trip to Orange and finish off with an afternoon in Lithgow all during mid winter.

I guarantee you will never complain about the cold ever again.

We are about 800 meters higher than Oberon township so always cooler than town.  Never do I complain about the cold, as I'm a Trout fisherman. I like it when there is a covering of snow as it keeps "Joe Blake's" away from me down the river bank.

Richard she should go down to Hobart - they had their "Nude Swimathon" this morning at dawn - I believe it was difficult to distinguish the males from the ladies when they came out.

Yep Wife and I came back to melbourne from Benalla a few weeks ago and stopped at a free camp in Merton; near the Yay,  Yarra Glen area. It is a local privately owned town Racing facility for horses etc.

It was our last night on the road and not to far to Dandenong from there. Turned out to be minus 4.6 that night and the lowest temp in Victoria.

I sure know how to pick,em. Luckily I had insulated the exterior water pipes. The rear taps on the bumper were solid frozen as they are brass, but all the internal plumbing was fine.

Let me say if you are using an oil heater half you luck if you have not mixed in one litre in ten of kerosene. Anyway ours is a gas heater, as I could fit it myself. I also prefer the cleaner running and lack of diesel fumes which upset my wife.

They use sheep as lawn mowers and in the morning they were all around our van for quite a while. I reckon the heat of the van gave them some respite. we laughed at the racket of the sheep ...from deep baritone to soprano...smile

I think that the saying came from cannon ball stands. They were triangular, brass plates with dents in them to hold the cannon balls. If it became too cold then the brass triangle would shrink and the cannon balls would dislodge from the dents. Hence "freeze the balls off a brass monkey".

However, the images do look good.
