Can anyone tell me where to look on the web for a local carpenter or handyman. When I put in a query on google and duck duck go like "Handyman in ACT" the only thing that comes up are Gumtree, Facebook Pages or those pages where you describe the job you want done and wait for people to come back with a quote. Not on Gumtree or Face Book so they are out. Have noticed this since the row with google seems they only bring up webites that are direct questions or related to the news. Help. What am I doing wrong?
Good luck finding anyone ,the tradesman used to be relabel ,not anymore . If you got a job worth $5000 and over , they will be interested ,under ,forget it. I have a problem with my roof (house) , the valleys need fixing , they come ,look and that's it . I have to do it myself ,( the cops come and lock me up because I am to old to go on the roof ).

I think your best way out is ,get in touch with a Mans Shed ,you will find always some good tradesman there.
You don't tell us which City you need the caravan tradesperson or what carpentry you need done, or is it insurance claimable -
Local to me in Sydney are, PJS Caravan & Trailer Repairs 02 9610 4434 - James Caravan Repairs 0410 511 112 - Barnes Caravans 02 9728 6366.
You will need a caravan specialist rather than a handyman as most timber work inside caravans are integral to their construction and you would probably need to take van to their workshop for a quote.
To find others on the web type in "Caravan Repairs" and "City/town".
Be prepared that most van repairers have work booked in for months, so you will most likely have to wait a while to effect repairs

Sorry Possum but this particular job is not caravan centric. In fact, its not even a caravan. Its about replacing one panel that has warped in the kitchen cupboards of my motor home. The leak that caused the issue has been fixed.
All I need is someone who can remove the old panel, put some veneer on both sides of a piece of chipboard/MDF, edge it with some plastic edging and screw back into place. So, either a handyman or a carpenter could do the job. I am looking around the ACT. There are no caravan repairers in ACT. The Jayco dealer only looks after Jayco and they are more sales orientated.
But that wasn't really my question or comment. It was about the fact that I can't seem to get a list of options with regard to tradesmen. Not even the "Yellow Pages" was helpful.
The internet used to be a goldmine of information and you could find out almost anything. Lately I have found that a lot of websites will not allow you to see their content unless they get your personal information. If I do a query, the hits are few and does not necessarily relate to the query. Is there anyway around this?

MSG. Is there a Mens Shed anywhere near you? Could be worth talking to.
The shed I go to in Brisbane help out with all sorts of funny little repair jobs.
Also haven't been able to find a recipe for Curried prawns & rice. Just seems my google query skills don't work any more. or maybe I want something that is no longer fashionable or available like Chinese Food Recipes, Tradie hire or polished floorboards.(real ones not those engineered vinyl coated ones) or curtain tracts in dark brown rather than white. The Brown matches all the wood architraves etc. my time is over I think. Attitudes and wants have changed. The young people would be horrified that the lounge suite in my house is 50yrs old. Its quite modern though. Modular with a chaise. I could go on....and on... and on.

Ingredients
20 cooked prawns, peeled and deveined
2 carrots, sliced
1 celery, sliced
100g bamboo shoots
100g baby corn
2 onions, chunky cut
1 zucchini, cut into slices
15ml sweet dry sherry
200ml cream
200ml chicken stock
Cornflour mixed to a paste with water
Curry powder and sugar, mixed (2 parts curry powder, 1 part sugar)
Method
Cooking method:Sauteing
Place a hot wok on a high heat or saucepan with a drizzle of oil.
Add vegetables to the wok to sauté.
After sautéing vegetables, add prawns to the stir-fry. Keep the vegetables in motion so they don't stick to the bottom.
Add 3 or 4 tablespoons of your curry mix until the vegetables are coated. Just toast for a couple of minutes on a low heat, then remove the vegies and prawns.
Crank the heat back up full high and deglaze the wok with the sweet sherry, until it just comes to a boil.
Add chicken stock and cream at the same time and bring back to the boil.
Once boiling add a little cornflour slurry to the dish and gradually thicken so the liquid. Add vegies back in and stir until the sauce fully coats them like a glaze.
To serve, add steamed rice to the plates, and pour the prawn curry over the top.

tea spoon, Yes the mens shed would be a good start.
Its not a matter of getting someone to do the job, its about putting a query into google and getting a suitable answer.
Now I haven't had that issue previously so I am wondering whats going on.
I think it could have something to do with the rows Microsoft have had with the Govt of late. I am getting very few hits from a query and then they seem to be orientated to USA and very little local info.
Well, I finally got an answer from one of the tradies.
He tuned up this morning for a quote. Right on the spot he said he could fix it there and then for a reasonable price. So I accepted. What could he do wrong? It was a case of either he sould be successful or not.
I went inside and left him to it. About a minute later the door bell rang and before I could get to the door he was in his ute and leaving. Huh??? Anyway, went and had a look at what he had done. He'd put not one but two holes in the wood. Anyway, chased him up on the phone, asked him what he was going to do about it. Apparently I was lucky he didn't charge me for his time. Said that I was going to talk to a solicitor this afternoon and would sue him. "Please don't do that, I have two small children and a wife who can't get work" Yeah like I care? Anyway, I can't afford a solicitor that would cost more than any compensation I would likely get. I settled with writing a note saying I had been advised to seek compensation from him first before taking it further. I think I am now stuck with it though. .
Just received a reply to my email:
"Thanks, you will have to hire another trademan, cost of demage hit
hammer two spots, I will pay for it and sent back to me invoice bill ".
Going to take me weeks and I want to get out of this cold wather.

Some local councils have listings of trades people on their web pages, or local newspapers. Either digital or printed. Ask you neighbour or others in the street where you live for recommendations
