G'day
We take our IQ3 and have no issues except heavy rain but that happens anywhere.

I only use Foxtel go. I get it on both my mobile phone, and my computer. I can't record anything to watch later though.
I may get a box when i hit the road full time though.
I love watching Formula one, and Moto GP, but they are often on live at stupid oclock.

I have been taking the iQ4 with me for about 12 months now.

No issues whatsoever, but no local channels due to the one lead in
rather than the standard two.

No HD either, but you wouldn't know on 21" screens.

I have a 48" at the foot of the bed - yes, you can see the difference there.

You will need a $12 - $25 downsampler also between the box and tv (or a splitter
if you have that) to feed two tv's. (Or at least I did).

Just be sure to get the right plug thingos/connectors.

Bit of fiddling but then away you go.

Do you need a satelite dish like in a home setup to use the boxes on the road?

It is certainly something i would like to take. I miss not haviong a recording device.

Hi all,

We have Wi-Fi in our van.  Having gone down the IQ box on the road and satellite dish we tried something else last trip.  We decided to try a Telstra TV box and Foxtel Now App and avoid a satellite dish.  We suspend our home Foxtel for the period we are away and can reactivate it when we get back and suspend the Foxtel Now until we go away again. Even though you cannot record, you can download whatever the program is at a later date.  Here is a website for more information https://www.foxtel.com.au/now/support/how-it-works/how-to-use/on-demand.html.  We got a large monthly internet bundle (200GB) that covers all the data for the TV box and phones and computers (ie shared between all the devices).  The max Foxtel bundle is $104 and you get all the channels available through the App.  The only downside is if you are in an area with poor internet bandwidth but there are issues with satellite dishes as well. Hope this helps.

 Yes you do.

There's a lot of folding portable outfits and additionally you need a long connector so that you

can move the dish when set up to miss trees, etc. Also will need an inline signal strength

meter - they are from 50 t0 100 dollars average.

Google mobile satellite deals and get a package. Mine came from Mackay (I think) about

10 years ago - all up about $700 - and could sell it now for $3-400 in a flash.

It takes me 7 minutes to set up and go back inside for my Coke, and in reverse 5 minutes to

pack up.

No hassle at all. Quite fun locating the satellite and fine tuning.

If you intend travelling 'way down south you need a large dish, for elsewhere one of

the smaller folding dishes suffices. I find it better (and cheaper) to have the portable

arrangement because it doesn't matter where I park I can move a few meters one

way or the other to get a sighting between trees, etc. The fixed units on the top

of RV isn't so versatile and obviously you have to camp in the open or move

the van - and that's not always possible in a holiday park when a tree is right in the

road or you are in a wooded campsite.

There are satellite finders on WikiCamps and even better ones on the web. You

can point the phone at the sky and see the satellite - just move 'till there's

nothing in the way, and set up the dish there.

More fun!

You will need a haircut though!!!!!!

I did a very quick search this morning.

Being a member of Amazon Prime, i found this page.

Lots of options here, but which one is the right one.

Thats why we do research first..right?

 Hi gdayjr,

Rather than going down the path of buying bits and pieces from the likes of Amazon and then getting it all to work to your needs, may I suggest that you go to an Australian supplier that will have the knowledge of your equipment requirements.

When I set my Satellite tv up I went to Satplus.

They have a branch in Noosa and in Melbourne and you can easily shop on line.

I phoned the manager in Noosa and he was really helpful with options for my requirements.

There is a lot more to it than just a dish. Anyway they sent all the parts I needed, minus the Fox Box with instructions.

i have no affiliation but I would not hesitate to use them again.

Here they are.

Graham,

You could also keep your eyes out on Gumtree, eBay, or Marketplace if you are on Facebook.

You can often find a secondhand setup from $300 up, with dish, tripod, decoder, cables and sat finder, in short all you need. If you wish to take your Foxtel box, all you need beyond that, as far as I know, is to change the LNB to a multi cable unit.

We got a secondhand unit, which has cost $350 all up with some new connectors and minor bits, and couldnt be happier. The price I quote of course is for a manual unit, not a state of the art rooftop unit.

Good luck with your search for your preferred unit.
