Blood clots/ AZ Vaccine

This is from English study but as we are still using UK produced vaccine it is relevant.

You have a 1 in 2500 (0.004%) chance of being diagnosed with epilepsy in the UK.
1 in 1000 (0.001%) chance of blood clot when flying.
1 in 2000 (0.005%) chance of blood clot when taking the oral contraceptive pill.
6500 pedestrians run over by a car in 2019 (0.009% of population).
Chance of blood clots from #AstraZenaca vaccine 0.000004% (1 in 250,000).
Which is better?
Of the 79 people found with this 'rare' condition 19 people have died, although it has 'not' been established what the cause was in every case.
...Stop the panic!

My bug bear is with the govt deciding that Astra Zeneca is OK for people over 50 on the basis that they have a greater chance of dying from COVID.

There seems to be little consideration on whether the % in this group also has a greater percentage of dying of the blood clots than the younger group.

I contend that who gets what should not depend on the chances of dying from CoVid to age but, age to susceptibility to blood clots.

I tried to find out the ages of those who have died from clots. That info was patchy and not clearly available.

Added to that SUPPLY and population to be vaccinated now. They want the oldies to get vaccinated first because they are the most vulnerable. Fair enough.

They also have millions invested in Astra Zeneca and a large supply.

Think of the upset to their programs and promises to voters if they were to halt vaccination to that population now. This way, they can get rid of their Astra Zeneca, keep the program moving as promised and by the time its the Under 50's turn have plenty of Pzifer to distribute.

At very little increased risk to the overall health of the population.  After all, across the whole population, its only a very low percentage.

Quite frankly, rather than getting a free vaccine chosen by the govt, I would prefer to have the option to choose and pay for my vaccination.

I think I have gone to the end of the line again.  (I'm going bush and will be in my own little bubble unit for the next 6 months at least anyway)

It is a bit rich with Clot Morrison telling us over 50s that AV is safe when he chose to put himself first in the queue and have the Pfizer vaccine. I think it best to wait and see what Jenny and the girls think is best.

Seems like NSW have seen the issue. They have stopped the rollout of AstraZeneca for all ages. Good on Gladys.

Think someone in the UK needs to check their maths and how they evaluate percentages

The rollout of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine in NSW has resumed after a temporary pause this morning.
Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the suspension was so health workers and officials could be updated on the advice handed down last night.

Was someone spoken to?

Post-Brexit UK has reverted to imperial percentages.

I can well understand people being reticent about having a Covid vaccination, the media have done their level best to scare the crap out of the population, now we see this in today's SMH.

Almost a third baulk at COVID vaccination

Doubts about side-effects top the list of reasons for alarming levels of vaccine hesitancy, but a new survey also shows many believe there is no rush to take a jab as borders are shut.

I had the first shot on Monday. Side effects were quite nasty for the first day or so, then start to abate.

My wife only had sore arm, headache & joint pain.

It was far from pleasant, I could barely walk yesterday but am more free today, just general joint aches now

The pain you get from the Covid vaccine is indicating that your immune system is activated and on guard.

When is the PM going to realise the opposition is not to the vaccine but being forced to have a vaccine that he would not have. Forcing. That is what is happening with their talk of passports. I recon the uptake of the vaccine would improve markedly if they let people choose which one.

Today's news,Six new cases linked to the vaccine, one SA man in ICU.

clots.JPG

Now let us look at the number of covid cases in Australia, only 25 and one in ICU.

As has been quoted " Imagine a vaccine so safe you have to be threatenedcases.JPG

As someone quoted" Imagine a vaccine so safe you have to be threatened to take it for a disease so deadly you have to be tested to see if you have it"

We will wait a long time before we get the vaccine, happy to stay close to home if we have to

My mob has always somehow found a way to let them slip over a long time. You have got to grab it by the balls when your chance comes

www.abc.net.au/news/2021-05-21/experts-urge-over-50s-to-get-astrazeneca-covid19-vaccine/100154574

This annoys me. "False sense of security" indeed. When the Premier and Chief Health Officer of Queensland haven't had their shots. The premier said she is waiting on having the flu shot. The Chief Health Officer will have a Pfizer vaccine. Huh?

What is the real reason?   Total lack of confidence in the Government?   Don't believe a word of what they say?   Are most people sitting back and waiting to see what happens?

Of course, its OK to give it to the oldies because blood clots are quite common.  Therefore cause of death can be attributed to a blood clot in the normal course of things rather than blame it on the vaccine.  Who would know?

The best thing the govt. could do is offer all vaccines to people.

I think the Astra vaccine will be taken out of production eventually in its current form .

And rightly so , these so called experts make me smile :)

I remember 12 months ago when it all started quite a few of these experts were saying ,"it would be impossible to have a vaccine ready in 12 months infact, in less than 5 years and then it would have to be tested for for 5 and usually at least 10 years or more .

It was scary stuff , now the same peeps are saying the vaccines are safe . Wow

I'm not convinced even slightly.

23 in 2.1 million is still better than being unlucky and contracting COVID. The side effect rate is really no worse than any other vaccine, it just gets reported more due to COVID being the flavour of the year.

Anyway, the vaccine is not compulsory, and people will decide whether they want it or not. That is freedom of choice. Business and States will also decide if they wish to allow unvaccinated people into the business or State. Once again, a freedom of choice.

Just so long as people accept that choosing not to be vaccinated may mean some restrictions are placed on them, and dont complain it is unfair.

Conflicting freedoms of choice can do that!
