When the door handle breaks

This weekend the door handle broke off. I looked at it and came up with a temporary solution that worked quite well. New part on order.
I drilled 4 holes and used 2 small cable ties pulled as tight as I could get them with pliers.IMG_0050 (1).jpg

What did we do in days past without cable ties? Wire?

I always carry both. We met a couple of "****ies" on the road between Birdsville & Windorah once - they wanted a piece of wire to fix their exhaust on their ute! Done.

I carry two rolls of galvanised wire; one about 1mm and the other about 2.5mm diameter - they are perhaps the most useful and versatile "fix-it" items I carry.

And these are brilliant!

Hi KFT

Super glue worked for me until I was able to obtain a new one a few days later.

The 2 that have let go on me were around the 7 year mark.

Back in October the internal one broke off but super glue that one.

Do carry the outer super glued one as a spare.

The rubbish plastic hardware that the caravan door manufacturers inflict on us all and the outlandish prices they charge for the replacements, is quite disgraceful to be frank.

I carry a small pair of Rigging Parrot Wire Cutters, a number of times I have had to cut discarded fencing wire from under the car. Easier to cut than side cutters.

There is a lock model redesign to improve the strength of these handles, it appears it is stronger. When removing the key from these locks always ensure the key is orientated vertically.

My handle broke internally , I was quoted $120.00 for the very poor plastic crap , so I made my own from a house interior alum door handle .

Bit of grinding and cutting , it will never break again .

Gold coloured too ,. LOL :)

Regards Orid

After breaking mine I added a grab handle (from eBay) on the inside of the door and now never pull on the lever.
