Mossman qld to Yalkula qld

We have a diesel pajero towing an 18 1/2 foot van worried about how steep and windy is the road ,should we drive back to Innisfail and drive up to the Tablelands using the Palmerston Hwy?

Palmerston highway is fine, but the Kennedy from Cairns is OK for towing. Would not try Gillies (closed yesterday in both directions) and cannot remember the  road from Mossman, but have done it. We tow a 3.5t 19' van with a 4.5 diesel patrol.

No problem going up the Mossman-Mt Molly Road. Much the same as the Palmerston from Cairns to Kuranda, and shorter time. Far too long to go back to Innisfail. Your Pajero will handle it no worries if it's mecahnically sound. If not, you'll have issues whatever way you go.

Just make sure you have the Pajero in Sports mode. Definitely do not drive it in Drive mode.

The Palmerston goes from Innisfail to Millaa Millaa. Kuranda Range road is from Cairns to Kuranda.

True, but if they go down to Innisfail it's a long way back to Yalkula.  Google maps (which doesn't actually list Yalkula - calls it Southedge) shows 49 km via Mt Molloy, 145 km via Kuranda Range & 322 km via Innisfail.  I've done all 3 with the van and no issues with any.

I've seen vans on the Gillies, but it wouldn't rate as one of my bucket list items.  BTW it's 218 km that way.

As Nev says, the Mossman-Mt Molloy road is a walk in the park, and there is absolutely no need to consider alternatives. As stated,no matter which route you choose, you will have difficulties if the car is not mechanically sound.Even the Gillies Range road is easy, but I'd prefer to be going uphill than down on that particular road.Just go for it...life's too short.Cheers
