My grey water tank sensor is beginning to give strange results such as 3/4 full then empty then 3/4 full then empty within a few seconds. I also notice that the flow from the tank is slower than previously. I am going to change the tap at the end of the grey water line to a larger one as it seems to be a narrowing zone where muck gets caught.
I was wondering how everyone cleans their grey water tanks. We have a bottle of Thetford Tank Freshener which is supposed to cut through muck, which I am going to try for the first time. The instructions are pretty useless as it simply says to pour it down the kitchen sink or shower. It doesn't say anything about filling the grey water tank or how long you leave it before you flush it out.
I have also heard that some people use Napisan and some use CLR.
Drop some ice cubes in there . With some sugar soap !! Then M/T . Percarbonate of soda ! They use it to clean beer lines and % of Nappy san active ingredient!

I put a full bottle of Milton baby bottle wash down the plug hole in the kitchen area then about a bucket of water down another plug hole. Leave the outside tank tap off and drive around for a day then drain appropriately. Seems to work well and no smells. I do it a few times a year. To be sure to be sure.
I also give the fresh water tanks the same treatment about once a year.
Keep Safe on the roads and out there.

I am led to believe that grey water turns to black water, after 24 hours, so it pays to drain the grey water tank, daily
What the wife does, is to wipe the plates etc, with a paper towel, before washing them
This (in theory), stops solids going into the grey water tank
In the nearly 7 years we have had the motorhome, we washed the grey water tank once
We waited until it was half full, and then put a large bottle of white vinegar down the drains, then went for a few hours drive, and then drained the tank
Each time I get home, I will drain the grey, fill it with potable water, drain the tank, and do this until only clear water is coming out
When I got the motorhome, I found that the grey water drain pipe, was looped over the rear spring
This only allowed the tank to be drained until it was about half full
The grey water tank now drains fully, and there is no smell, as there are Hepvo one way valves, just before the grey water tank

Mmmm, all that vinegar. I'd be worried about seagulls attacking me.
I use vinegar a lot for cleaning shower etc and about to try on teepee perspect windows so will change to vinegar for the grey water tank as well. Bugga the seagulls.
