Can someone enlighten me / or us as to how in the name of ..... do they measure this so-called part of climate change. It may have something to do with the 4 seasons of climate change.
JayDee, the main basis is reports submitted by all major greenhouse gas emitters annually to the government, together with some fancy modelling incorporating economic and production data.
what is the point of australia addressing climate change if India and China do nothing.
As I said earlier, no point. But, what we really should do, is really concentrate on the pollution of our oceans and rivers and the environment. We are loosing too many of our flora and fauna. We, and all countries should have an all out house cleaning exercise to give them a fighting chance, the human species included.
Many Australians believe that Australia is far more important than it really is. We pollute bugger all compared to the big boys. If we stopped all our single use plastic tomorrow the rest of the world wouldn't notice or even care. Yet some folks are prepared to destroy the very economy and life style we have just so that can sleep easy at night. If we shut down every fossil fuel power generator right now no one would notice. We are killing our manufacturing in the name of ideology. China pollutes producing the green stuff that some think we need. At the same time China puts it hand out for our money. The polluters are getting rich on our stupidity.
at 14 years old my father took our family to hope island, just south of cooktown, we stayed for a week.
i went back 5 years ago , 50 years later, and it is still exactly the same same beautiful reef, torres strait pidgeons etc climate change reef damaging is bull****.
I've tried to avoid commenting on this topic. Why do so many of you keep stirring the hornets nest. You know it's going to get ugly
I've found that there's nothing one can say to change climate deniers minds. There's just too much confirmation bias, whether it's climate change, vaccination conspiracies , moon landing conspiracies, flat earthers, etcetera. Hopefully the majority of people will trust the science and believe in climate change so that they will make a difference, either by using their votes or personally making changes. Otherwise, there's no hope for future generations.
Even if the majority of climate scientists are wrong and there is no climate change, in my mind, it's still worth doing something about reducing our reliance on unrenewable resources. They'll all run out at some stage.
I know that a bunch of you are going to rubbish my comments. Thus, proving my point, but I can't help myself. I can't help hoping that my comments will help someone to turn away from the "dark side" and do their bit for civilisation. :--)
I do not believe in climate change, ask any established farmer, we have seen it all before. follow the money?
i worked for CSIRO many years ago where for 6 months i imputed climate data into a computer, we looked for patterns, there were NONE.
The problem with climate change and, much more importantly, it's causes is... you really need to observe it for 10,000+ years or more before judgements can have any validity. Planet climate systems are not fast movers....
eg. I remember the record cold winter of 1962 in the UK - was that climate change?
Edit:
Never mind: it gives the Western middle classes a new religion and something to feel guilty about for their conspicuous wealth.

It is quite rightly pointed out that we should be looking at thousands of years of records to get an accurate picture to decide if the current changes we see are cyclical or are part of a disturbing trend. Those records arent available so some say the current trends prove nothing, and climate change is a non event as we are simply in a heating cycle.
However, the lack of those records means that accurate records of cyclical events and the peaks are not available either, so current changes may in fact be something to worry about. In fact records cannot prove or disprove either argument. What we can see is that since records began, there is evidence the worlds climate is changing, and that trend is generally towards a warmer base line.
Sometimes, erring on the side of caution until accurate records are in is a sensible course of action. Believe me, finding better and less polluting ways of doing things will never be a mistake, whatever our individual beliefs are!

The climate change train has already left the station; the world has moved on and it's leaving climate change deniers behind. The US has rejoined the Paris agreement and many countries including China have committed to zero carbon emissions etc., the EU is considering imposing a tariff on imports from countries that do not pull their weight in reducing carbon emissions, car manufacturers have committed to ceasing the production of fossil fuels vehicles and the list goes on. Let's not waste energy on swimming against the tide.
Many Australians believe that Australia is far more important than it really is. We pollute bugger all compared to the big boys. I've been around for a few years and remember the world I grew up in. The river I used to frequent for the last 60yrs is covered in blue/green algae at times. Was never present back then. It stinks and there is not as much flow and you will often run into sand bars. The great barrier reef. First went there in '69 been back several times. The water is cloudy. The coral is a lot further out. The stuff near shore is all broken and has no colour. This is probably more a result of too many tourists walking on it and breaking pieces off. The lake where we skied when we were young adults is now so polluted from over farming runoff that it has been closed. The beach where I used to run around with bare feet, you can't anymore because of all the broken glass. This is how pollution has affected me. I am not talking climate change but just polluting our environment, Australia. Cleaning up Australia would be a good start.

Hi Buzz I agree with comments made here about Australia being a small cog in a world wide wheel. For people who are worried about our flora and fauna in Australia one of first things they should look at is cat's. NO, I'm not a cat hater, will include a pic of "squeeky" the vet next doors cat with collar and bell, who likes to visit because I quite often buy fish and chips and she never drinks my beer so that's OK :) but...I'd bet the majority of cat's have neither in the suburbs and the bush speaks for itself. The figure I saw re small animals, lizards etc was over a million per year Australia wide not to mention insects, shoot I just did nevermind and lets not forget the fox, wild brumby's and ugly people, good looking people obviously deserve to live. Not many of us would be knocking ourselves off would we? :):)
ps here's squeeky the day she got a severe haircut
Climate changes within a day when you drive 213km from Eden to Perisher, or in my case Manly to Katoomba, 122km, about 3 hours with our Sydney traffic!

Folk tend to twist comments on these and other forums to suit their view of the world. "Climate denier" has become a catch all decorative term use to label folks with whom you don't agree with.
First no one I have read has said do nothing about cleaning up our act. Second is the fact that Australia produces half of bugger all pollution so why should we do the heavy lifting while others do bugger all? Third anyone who believes anything China says is dillusional. The USA has already cut their carbon foot print and joining Paris is just virtue signalling. And finally not one person who throws around the "climate denier" label comes up with a solution that will pay for the schools, hospitals etc etc etc as we shut down our economy just so others can profit from our stupidity.
There is a way to clean up our act regardless of any climate BS. We can do that by being smart and without wrecking our grandkids future. Let alone the future of the millions living in developing countries who dream about having our lifestyle.
Climate science is promoted by those who have nothing to lose. The Hollywood elite who flit around the world preaching to all those who expire to better their lives. The politicians and former prime ministers that have financial interest in renewables. Former vice presidents making millions out of talking down to those who don't agree. Californian coroners shutting down nuclear power stations and promoting fossil fueled generations while family members get rich supplying the fossil fuel.
The whole thing is a con yet we are told to believe the science. How about believing in the money trail?
Climate change, bah humbug. I had a chat with father Xmas, the tooth fairy and that other "invisible guy" up there and they agreed with me, a lot of bulldust. But if anyone is comfortable believing this rubbish and makes you feel good I am very happy for you :):):)

Aussie1 the problem is that those who "believe" could well be destroying the lifestyle we all enjoy. Without some push back they will be soon telling you when to go to bed and turn the lights out. Assuming you have power for the lights!!
