vehicle relocation

Hello everyone.

Hubby & I are wanting to travel from Brisbane to north Qld at the end of April.

I've heard that there are companies that will allow you to drive a hire car from one city to another for $1 - $5 per day plus reimbursement for petrol expenses.

Anyone know something?

Sometimes if Car Hire Companies get a glut in one city and/or a shortage in another they will allow vehicles to be returned to city of origin at reduced rates - Try ringing all the Car Hire Companies.

Do a bit of Googling and you'll find possibilities but in the meantime:

A few years ago, I had met one person, who had taken a small camper van, from Adelaide to Perth

You are allowed a time limit, and just north of Ceduna, he mentioned that he was going to drive across the Nullarbor in one hit.
The method behind the madness, was that there would have been 4 backpackers, but the other 3 were unavailable, when the hire people got in touch with them
He thought that if he could make up time, he could do some sightseeing, along the way

As he was from the UK, and first time in Australia (backpacking), I advised him not to cross the Nullarbor at night time, due to Kangaroos/Camels etc

I am led to believe that, you can take a vehicle, when and where the hire companies want them taken, which may not necessary be, when or where, you wish to go

There are several sites on the net Ellimay. I did this a few years ago and brought a car down from Darwin to Brisbane. You are given a certain amount of days and you pay for the petrol. The rate is reduced but not to the extent you state. Usually there is not much notice given so you really are on stand by as to when you get the car or van and where you might be going.

Hi

We used a company I think from memory it was called camper van relocations in all major cities. You could book certain trips and dates in the future always one way and they allowed a certain time to do the trip and covered the fuel usually and a dollar a day.You could also extend your time on some trips depending on when it is booked by the next booking of that vehicle.

Any extra days would be charged at the normal rates

Cheers

Hi all

Have done a relocation from Brisbane to Adelade with a 6 berth MoterHome (Merc) nearly new

They gave me 5 days to get there and a reasonable amount of Kilometers but not that you can go all over the country side

Also got $250.00 worth of fuel paid at the end

Cost $1 a day

Insurance as normal
Deposit paid back after trip
Same Motorhome at that time cost over $350.00 a day

The site is
imoova.com

They have a large list Daily with relocations require from all major centers

We were delivering cars all over USA in 1989 for "Auto Driveaway"  First one was a Relocation from Los Angeles, Anaheim. Along Route 66 (our request)  to Hanco(k, Maryland. Great way to get around if you are not committed to time or places.  Just staying I cheap Motels on the way. Some of them gave the feeling of being in   "BATES" Motel in the film Psycho.
