There will only be 128 seats for watching the tennis for the only other essential workers!

You are right there Dougwe, small Mum and Dad businesses suffer badly while big businesses remain open.

But it sure puts a new spin on what is an essential worker.Just like ancient Rome, the games must go on.

There a lot of Dementia on this forum or is it selective memory, this may help, from the very begining Prime Minister Morrison answered the question about Essential Workers as anyone who has a job to go to!

You can't be serious, people have a job to go too,but it has been taken away from them.

It seems you are under a delusion

I'm not really a happy bunny about this.

I'm camped in the forest in central Victoria; a friend, today, drove three hours from the south coast of Vic to visit me for the weekend, she arrived at noon and left at 6pm in order to return home before midnight. I hasten to add the lockdown was not announced when she left at 9am.

Did this lockdown *really* have to include *all* of Victoria?

Plain Truth I suggest that you read the lockdown rules before you go throwing insults around.

When can I leave my house?
From 11.59pm Friday 12 February until 11.59pm Wednesday, Victorians will only be able to leave home for four main reasons: shopping for food and essential items; care and caregiving; daily exercise or recreation; and work.

Not much good opening your business and having staff come in to look after customers who are not allowed to leave their homes.

Kebbin,I never said anything about the lockdown rules,I just said we are in lockdown and tennis players are classified as essential workers.

You are the one who started with the insults with the words"Dementia and selective memory"

Here we go again, the whole state locked down for a Melb based problem created by GovCo.

At least last time they acknowledged that it was a Melb based problem and let regional Vic go about its business relatively normally.

This is what you get from an incompetant government which is only interested in controlling its citizens, 13 cases and the entire state is locked up. marshmallow fro SA locks the door , the chook from chookland is for chooklanders bolts the door for all of vic. the dud from wa shuts the gate not tomorrows leader as well. Vic needs excising from Aus because they have no idea of controlling covid or it appears contract tracing. 15 cases and Australia is shut to everywher except NSW.

This shutdown will be the last straw for a lot of restaurants. They needed this very busy weekend for cashflow, instead a lot of food will be dumped. The final nail in the coffin!

I think some need to be reminded. This is the UK version and is far more contagious. If they can't get it back in the box we will just end up like the UK and US. Put simply, in deep sh1t.

We truly are the lucky country. Let's stop whining down keep it that way.

Yes Oldbloke I think I must agree. they are not sure if the horse has already bolted and the virus is out of Melbourne as it could well be. It has stuffed my week just like everybody else. but better a week now if it avoids another long term lockdown.

My sister is an ex-nurse & when she shops she wears a N95 mask. She is at a loss as to why people working in these high risk environments are only wearing surgical masks.

I gree 100%. A P2 or N95 is effective. A surgical mask is probably about 50% effective. Anyone with just basic knowledge in the area knows this. But 50% for the average shoppers is probably enough to get by.  I wear the surgical type  but also keep my distance when shopping.

For people in the higher risk areas though I agree with your sister.

1 case today. Tell the farmer in his tractor in the middle of his paddock in the Mallee why he has to wear a mask. Good chance the paddock is more than 5 k from home.

You can't really compare Australia to the UK and the USA. Different situations. Different climate. Different social circumstances. Just comparing figures doesn't mean all that much. We may never know why Australia has done so well. But my guess is that Australians have be prepared to bite their tongues and follow the rules. There's no doubt that the weak link is hotel quarrantine. So how can some state's not learn to get hotel quarrantine right.

Years ago cutting out bricks inside, I've done it a few times & it's a horrible job due to the dust & can't wet cut.

I built a plastic enclosure within the room both sides of the wall & sucked the air our very a 500 watt extractor fan.

It's not difficult stuff.

If the hotel has a row of rooms, use the first room to allow air to enter the corridor. The last room along the corridor stick in a large extractor fan. Knock out the window if you have to.

One doesn't need a PhD to work out basic ventilation.

Recoup the premier was asked about that. His answer was that 'it was a legal requirement". Whatever that means. The CMO, Sutton, also said it was a legal requirements. let's wait and see.

Maybe its not a case of no idea (seriously can anyone be that stupid?) but they like the control and they are seeing how far they can push the people of Vic for the CCP.

Please spare me. You are simply displaying your total lack of understanding.  The legislation that allows the state gov to make these rules has been in place for perhaps 30  or more years. And is there for good reason.  (note that if it was not required or bad then numerous governments in that time could have easily recinded it if it) My week has been screwed too, but at least, like most I accept that that lock down is happening for good reason.

I also note that all the members that keep bitching have gone through life without ever making a bad decision or any errors. And that all the people that have worked under them have always done their jobs 100% correctly. Lol

UK 1 death in 650
US 1 death in 677
AU 1 death in 28,272

I think that the raw stats above speak for themselves. And to suggest they are not a fair comparison is simply nonsense. We are 41 times less likely to die of covid. If that isn't good risk management I'll be a monkeys uncle.

If people don't like it I'd suggest you catch the next flight out.

I happen to know someone in the UK who is desperate to get here, but unfortunately didn't take out citizenship when he had the opportunity.

Firstly and most important, to all my friends in Victoria, if I could help you, then I would
I can only say, hang in there

Not being a medical person, so the following is my own opinion, which may not conform with your opinion

It looked to me as though the Victorian leaders had three choices

  1. No lockdown, in case the lockdown was not required

  2. Hotel lockdown, and ring fence certain areas, when and where, any positive cases were found

  3. State wide lockdown

I disregard choice #1
As I have read, what has already happened in other countries, with no initial lockdowns

I disregard choice #2
As I am led to believe, this strain of Covid-19, is a lot more infectious than previous strains

I believe the reason for State Lockdown, is because in this day and age, from the first community catching of Covid-19 at the hotel, till the hour of the lockdown, an unknowingly infected person, could have travelled to any part of the state

Agree. Pressurising the hallway with fresh air is the answer. But then each room would need to have an open window to ensure air flow is in the right direction. Problem is most hotel windows are locked to prevent jumpers and ensure A/C is efficient.

From day one I have been puzzled as to why surgical masks have been in use by medical staff who are at risk. A pretty low standard. Should be P2.

Simple question. Why can NSW get it almost right and Vic can't?

And setting up check points would take time, further allowing the virus to spread.
