Mitsubishi is recalling 2 of its popular SUV models over a risk of injury or death due to brake shaft issues.
The 2015 ASX model and 2016 Outlander have been recalled, affecting 8847 vehicles according to Product Safety Australia.
The cars are being recalled due to a failure of the anti-rust coating, which could see in result forming on the parking brak shaft.
This could see the brake shaft become stuck and not engage.
"This may increase the risk of an accident, which may result in an injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders," the authority said.
Mitsubishi Motors Australia will contact all known owners by mail, advising them to present their vehicle to their preferred Mitsubishi dealer for inspection and repair, free of charge.
