Thinking about travelling in the motorhome with a puppy Pug. Obvious challenges will be finding caravan parks that allow pets. Interested to hear tips such as whether to buy a dog cage to leave then in when we go out (to confine mess). Where do folk eat in town if they take their furry friend with them (eg can't imagine restaurants would be welcoming). I'd worry about theft if we left her outside the van when we left the park for any length of time, so she'd either be with us or left in the van. Tips about these questions and anything else much appreciated.
There are a lot of dog friendly parks, so call ahead to check. Most parks have rules against leaving pets unattended, but some do have a pet minding service, for a small fee. Some areas have kennels, and some vets have a minding service, research is the key. Information centres can be helpful with local info.
A lot of pubs have beer gardens, where most pets are welcome to accommodate travellers, and some restaurants have outside areas as well. While looking around the area, call in at the local spots and ask, they can only so no, and maybe give you an idea of where you can go for a meal with your pup.
Research and local info are the best options. Enjoy and be safe.
Our small dog is an active breed so we try to give some exercise time during the days. Walking, and/or throw and fetch. Good for us too. Fortunately, our dog is ok and quiet if left alone. So, we have left the dog in the van with aircon running and radio on to help hide outside noises from the dog. Ok for 2 to 4 hours without whoopsie incidents inside the van or pen. So far, for us there have been no problems to neighbouring vans. We don't mention to park management that we leave the dog in the van. Shhh.
Where we can take the dog, it comes with us. We have used dog sitting services for longer times. eg Day trips to National Parks.
We stay with our dog at showgrounds or recreational grounds they are pet friendly have power showers toilets water dump point and lots of room for your furbies much cheaper than caravan parks. If we want to have a meal at a pub we ask if they have an area we can eat with our dog. Lots of places are now pet friendly
