Went up to one of our favourite spots at the end of Nov.,early Dec. last year.
There were only 3 camps when got there, then they kept coming in,so we moved further out to this spot.Just the 2 camps during the day, then 1 or 2 overnighters passing thru.
It was a really nice spot, even had a friendly snake stop by for a sunbake, before he headed down to the river.
Next trip you might like to stop/camp on the Victoria River. It is a great little spot, about 3/4 km off the Hotham Road. The grassy area is situated under gum trees and there is an environmentally friendly toilet there together with fire pits. A short drive down the road, and beside the Victoria River, will take you to a viewing area for the Victoria River Falls. If you are fit enough you can also walk down from the end of the road and view the remains of the old Hydro station on the Cobungra River. The first Hydro station in Australia and used to power the nearby gold mines.
Cassillis is where the power from the hydro station went. If you remember the Cassillis settlement, they have just made a lot of improvements to the recreational ground and the old cemetery. Worth having a look at.
