How big do you need & how much do you want to pay? Our 17'6" Sunseeker has an ATM of 2600 kg (I think the newer ones are 2700 kg) and a payload of about 650 kg. You can get (say) a Sunland 19'6" van with Tare of about 2250kg (and ATM of up to 3500kg). Both off-road. The Adria ones are much lighter but can't carry as much. And mostly on-road Coromal have a 20' van (rough road) 2130kg tare & 650 kg payload Jayco would have quite a few. Lots of other stuff around - just need to look around. New or second hand? Price range? Planned use? Website caravancampingsales.com.au shows over 2,500 vans for sale with a ATM of under 3,000kg. You can filter according to price, state, new/used off-road etc. It's a good place to start your research. Good hunting!
We have friends who insist on European Light weight vans, OK for them, BUT recently had a few days/nights at a coastal town with van park on the coast, and it was stormy and windy and they were rocked around substantially even with stabiliser legs down.

I slowly realise as I get older that I am definitely NOT the fastest rat in the race.
Also the older I get the more I realise I do not know.
Good point Mobi combo
While building my ultra light 16x7ft van with full ensuite I thought about the many caravans at Cobram caravan park few years ago when a twisted threw them around like toys. So I added shackle mounts two each side so I could tie it down for peace of mind. It's survived 100kph winds at Burra Burra SA rec ground. Washing outside was horizontal. Big vans threatened to topple. Our 998kg van atm stood secure.

Makes you wonder if the modern Au builds even seriously consider weights, given that they could deliver these figures 20 years ago and produce a product with the lifespan of my old girl that has done >200,000km so far with very few issues.
ps The 4.2 efi GQ Patrol GVM is 2800 Kerb weight 2120 Payload 680 - Tow Capacity 2800.
Talk to these guys. vanglass.homestead.com/
They manufacture the best FRP sandwich panel in the country to a few manufacturers who make light weight vans.

Big mistake in buying a European single axle light van.
A very lightweight van that I could move by myself on level ground.
We persevered with a 55 yes 55-litre water tank. (Naturally, we had to carry extra water.) We had the van for two long trips. One to Tassie and one to Cooktown. We now have a 21 ft Coromal Princeton 4 wheels semi off-road. To date never a sway problem. Boy did the Adria sway when passed by 32 wheelers and also especially scary in high winds. I am at a loss when we see single-axle vans passing us at speeds well in excess of 100 kph.
Give me an Aussie 4 wheeler van ahead of the overseas models any day.
But I guess it is horses for courses.
Our Van is currently on jacks as we do not travel during the summer months in this great country, plus we pay less insurance through our insurer QBE.

Hi John....your van has what is known as a Symons Knee suspension system, first developed in 1975.This is the only suspension system that does not cause a van to suffer from the negative effects of axle steer, which would explain why you have no problems with sway.Good choice, but you no doubt will know that this suspension system is not load sharing,so it is important to keep the van level.Stability will be greatly improved by running 2-4psi lower pressure in the tyres on the front axle of your van than is in the tyres on the rear axle.Cheers
We have an Avan. After some initial problems with delivery, we are now very happy. We have a Avan Jensen, semi off road, weighs in at 1955kg. 20ft with full ensuite.
