Covid-19 vaccine

It looks like Australia will soon be manufacturing a vaccine, for Covid-19

I was thinking that, as we are nearly out of danger, (we can definitely see the light at the end of the tunnel)

Should we be sending the vaccine, to those who need it more than us, places such as Europe/Americas/Eastern Block/Middle East etc

The method of the madness behind my thinking is

The quicker the people of infected countries are vaccinated, the less population will require the vaccine, and the less mutations will occur

I have read but do not have the links at my fingertips

  1. There is already an unknown mutation of the virus, on a ship off the Australian coast
  2. There has been a further mutation which went from humans, to Mink, back to humans
  3. Some of the overseas travellers in quarantine in Australia, were positive, but showing no symptoms

A vaccine will only work if everyone is vaccinated. So how do you 'force' people to be vaccinated?

A very very good point with the virus here really under control, and going into summer, maybe we could with hold a small quantity here for the most vulnerable and send the rest to where it is needed the most.

No madness in your thinking, just a great selfless idea

Not wanting to rain on the parade BUT the vaccine they are starting to manufacture hasn't finished clinical trials yet , bit of wishful thinking on someone's part maybe .

Probably in the region of 93% of the population need to be vaccinated.

we might have it under control but it was at great cost to our economy. i think we should be careful it might get away again, like it has in other places. we should immunize (protect)our selves first then we can assist others that are struggling.
then open our borders to other that have been immunized . when i was young an travelling the world i had to carry a vaccine certificate with my passport to have access to some countries those days maybe returning as most cases in aust are returned travelers fortunately in quarantine

what the man (someone important?) on the news said was that we still won't get it for the people till the second quarter of 2021 if all goes well

And that the CLINICAL TRIALS would not be completed for 3 months . How can they be going into production without the clinical trial data complete ,sorry sounds pie in the sky to me and at the very least a very poor business model .

It has long been mooted that governments would take a punt and pre-emptively manufacture promising vaccines well ahead of their final approval. Therefore the recent public statements are consistent with this approach.

As a follow up from my original post

At the bottom is a link to the news article (dated yesterday), which clearly states that the vaccine was being manufactured (as from yesterday)

Perhaps I should have included the link, but I did not think that I would be causing any controversy

To clear up my way of thinking, very early in the piece, just about everyone worldwide agreed to fast track, any proven Covid-19 vaccine

The article does say that as it will take 50 days to make the vaccine, it will be ready for when the final trial is complete

I assume that they are talking about a fast track trial

Hi outlaw40

I seem to recall in the distant past, that the health people worldwide, had decided to cut through all corners, to get this Covid-19 vaccine out

I think that they had decided, that due to the potential catastrophe, of waiting for the full term trials, (sometimes takes years), they would take a chance

It appears to me, (and I certainly hope that I am wrong), that with some world leaders (for whatever reason), ignoring Covid-19, it may be too late for some countries, to now go into lockdown, and they are eagerly waiting for whatever vaccine they can get

from what i'm reading the vaccine is being produced so it can be used as soon as it has been approved on the assumption that it will be approved
the government has paid for 10 million doses to fund it's production which won't cover all of us but could cover the high risk / front line people,
by then the next batch or a better one that maybe in the pipeline will be made. if they wait for approval it may add couple of months on, till we the people get it

at the moment it is being controlled/contained but if we get complacent, (which i think we are, fewer an fewer wearing face masks less hand sanitizer being used, bigger crowds, less testing) it could break out an run wild . i don't think another lock down would be received very well

I wouldn't accept a vaccine that hadn't been thoroughly and successfully tested. I would discourage my family and friends to reject any vaccine that hasn't been thoroughly and successfully tested. The idea our domestic economy will dramatically improve with a vaccine is nonsense. Infection control will assist our domestic economy and a vaccine is only a small part of the equation (if we quarantine any and ALL international entries). A vaccinated population that's geographically segregated will provide increased protection for that population but a worldwide vaccinated population has to be achieved before things will ever return to a pre-2020 world.

Feds have pre-purchased another 50 million vaccine doses about a week ago. They have plans for all of us.

I stopped reading after the 15 point summary

As I am not a legal type person, I have no legal words in my vocabulary

My (in layman speak) opinion of the 15 point summary, taken as a whole paragraph is:-

Not printable
