I have a Audi Q7 2011 that came with a factory tow pac . The car is fitted with a 13 pin euro plug and has been prewired to fit a brake controller , the wiring is already under the dash and goes to the boot area where it is connected but I have had no luck in finding out what pin the controller is connected to . the Auto electricians seem to think everyone in Canberra is made of money as it took 15 minutes to fit the controller and was quoted $1500 and the same for an anderson plug as a aged pensioner this is beyond reasonable.
According to a Google search on a 13 pin Euro plg/skt, pin 6 is the brake feed - for VW Amorak vehicles. You will need to find if this applies to all German, etc cars. Have an assistant operate the brake pedal while you measure across pin 6 & 3 (earth). You should see approx 12v. Release the brake, the voltage should disappear.
It also shows a Fridge feed on pin 10 with the corresponding earth on pin 11. Do not, unless you want trouble with melted plugs, sockets feed high currents through these plug/sockets combinations!

I feel for you. My LandRover dealer quoted $1200 for fitting an electric brake controller because they "had to run all new wiring from front to rear of car and remove/refit all the interior trims". However like yours, I found my car was already pre-wired for one at the factory and I just had to locate the plug behind the dash (see pic below), plug in my Redarc Towpro, and it all worked fine! I also ran two new cables from the battery to an Anderson socket on the rear to charge the battery and run the fridge in my van.
Hi, I know this is an old thread but hoping someone can help re the location of the brake controller harness per the picture from Mamil.
I've got a 2019 Q7 with a factory fitted tow pack and I'm looking to get a caravan this year. One of the things on the to do list is to fit a brake controller - a little project I wouldn't mind doing myself. I've taken off the side panel on both the RHS and LHS of the dash hoping to see the controller tucked away, but no such luck in either case. I've read in articles however that the harness is sometimes tucked away right up at the very near the firewall and that to see and access it you need to remove the facia below the dash. Before I take the next step of removing the facia I'm hoping someone can tell me which side I need to focus on - I'm guessing the drivers side but just wanted to quickly check beforehand.
