Visiting Kangaroo Island

Was considering a visit to K.I. during april next year. Is it worth the effort and kms to go there ie.. travel from sydney, van on ferry and cost. Knowing they had bad fires has the place recovered enough. Noticed there are limited number of van parks, any personal preferences ? How long would you stay on Island, would you leave van in one park and do day drives?

I have been on KI since jan 4 to volunteer with Blazeaid in rebuilding fences after the fires.
Is it worth the effort and km to get there?- Hell yea!
Has it recovered enough?- Great time to visit. The fire burnt 49% of the island but that leaves 51% intact. To see the recovery is worth the visit in itself.
Van Parks?- Have not stayed at any as we have been based at the Parndana Oval, but I have done a lot of work around the Western KI Park and it looks impressive.
The island is not big (150 km long), but I would tend to stay for a while in Penneshaw at the eastern end, then move on to Kingscote for a short while, then down to the western end.
How long to stay ??????
My list of must see would include
Raptor Park
Seal Bay (and a look at Bales beach)
Vivonne bay (with a lunch stop at the cafe for a whiting burger)
Little Sahara
Hanson Bay
Flinders Chase- lots burntout but great recovery. Admirals arch and Remarkable Rocks unaffected.
Fishing charter with Gavin Solly at the end of Western River road
Snellings Beach (drive on beach)
Stokes Bay - amazing
Huge number of wineries and eating places that are world rated.

If you were to weigh up the costs of the overall trip, the ferry part is not so great.
Make it worthwhile and stay for a few weeks at least
