2020 Insurances covering fallen trees and branches, storm, fire, bushfire

We do a lot of forest and national park camping, wondering what policies cover fallen trees and branches.  Have you had a claim and what was it like dealing with the insurance company. Thanks

Hi Brobut, I took out My van insurance with YOUI & asked specifically about falling tree limbs as we have had 2 close shaves camping in the forest, They said no problem, this is covered, would pay to ask any insurer this question I would think, John.

You will pay the excess.

& if you pay extra for a replacement vehicle you will have a car to drive around, but you better check that it is an equivalent vehicle.

Dont ask because the call centre person may tell you anything. Obtain the insurers PDS and read the cover and exclusions and then decide if the product is right for you.

I also strongly suggest that you read their PDS very carefully before paying out your hard earned cash to any of them I found out the hard way when I recently had to shell out $8K to fix our van which not only myself but  the van repairer and their own assesor thought would be covered.

We had a claim with CIL for a falling branch damage, it was dealt with quickly and easily. Do always read the PDS, but while I know many companies have an 'action of trees' exclusion (which means if you leave it parked and a tree grows up into it you aren't covered!) I don't know of any that don't cover falling branches or damage from storms.
