Hi Giggleswick,
When? From late April through to the end of September if you're a southerner & don't like a bit of hot weather/humidity. If you like the latter, I'd say up to early November.
A lot of Nomads are on the road in March though.
The northern wet season runs from late November to about Anzac Day, if we get one. Cyclones can come in late (April, May) - we need them to bring the rain but not the damage!
Travel direction - most people go anti-clockwise - mainly for the prevailing winds coming from Kalgoorlie to Pt Augusta.
Why would you miss out on seeing the southern coast of WA (nearly God's country)?
Happy planning.

Thanks everyone - we actually did the south last year - Norseman/Kalgoorlie/Perth/Bussleton/Margaret River/Albany/Esperance (including Rottnest Island and two weeks in the wheatbelt area) - enjoyed everyday - great spots.
On those beautiful beaches with that unbelievably white sand and beautiful aqua blue water where if you sit and watch a shark is likely to swim by. (no they were not dolphins).
