Tara - low cost camp

Stayed at Tara Lagoon camp on Saturday night.  The camp is between the lagoon and the showgrounds.  Nice bitumen area right on the lagoon.  Brand new amenities block consisting of 4 toilet/shower ensuites (Saturday was first time in use) Six power points to connect into.  Cemented walking track besides the lagoon with outdoor gym equipment.  A new undercover picnic area fitted out with bbqs, bins, dump point.  These facilities are for all general public.  When talking to a local, he said they're looking at putting in another RV camp area and extending the walking track.  We stayed umpowered for $5.00 and could stay up to three nights for that.  Don't know if it was more for power or not.  IMG_2291.JPG

Tara is located between Dalby and Surat on the Surat Development Road. Do not confuse it with Lara Wetlands; Lara Wetlands is a bush camping ground on a cattle station south of Barcaldine. The wetlands are fed by a century old artesian bore.
Once bitten (at $25 p.p.) twice shy - a shallow slimy bottomed pool full of dead and rotting trees in a dusty desert - They were busy pushing down trees with a bulldozer when we visited July 2019. One "Dunny" described as a photo opportunity.
Sorry to hijack your post Gaylehere - it is just the similarity of names recalled horrible memories.

There is also a township called WARRA.

Warra, a small rural town on the Warrego Highway, western Darling Downs, is 50 km north-west of Dalby. and to the southeast of Chinchilla.  It was named after the Warra Warra pastoral run.

Warra has a hotel, a racecourse, a primary school and a rural supplies store. Its census populations have been:

Around 300.

I do not know if there is any Camping area in Warra.

Must put Tara on our future camp list
