What a disappointing post. Firstly there is a suggestion that the people in charge and their advisers are all stupid and are just trying to get re-elected by their decisions.

Secondly there is what looks like a sexist and very derogatory comment on a female leader. One of a type that I have never seen used on a male premier. Bloody hell what rock do you live under.

I might wonder why people want to go to Qld to get that sort of thinking.

Why where are you off to JayDee if you are currently home in Queensland you are better off then some at least you can travel your own state that is most popular at this time of year and have it all to yourselves.

And heaven forbid you can go south to NSW or indeed South Australia has announced that it is opening it's boarder to Queenslanders. I do not know how that works if you drive thru NSW though. Tasmania along with NT, WA, SA, are all in some stage of closed borders.

But I guess you aren't travelling at all, just another attention seeking post

I have been in the same park, next to a beautiful lake with only one other caravan for the last ten weeks and I reckon it has been one of the best and most peaceful stays I have had in living memory.

I understand why borders are closed and the effect it has on businesses but I also recall the angst when our national border remained open for a couple of weeks too long and those dreadful blunders regarding the cruise ships. I also understand what the backlash and outrage would have been if borders remained open and the virus spread throughout the land unchecked.

I am not a doctor nor a scientist nor a person that controls day to day events. I accept that these people are acting on the best advice and knowledge in relation to unknown viruses.

One thing that I have noticed however is that so many people have had the chance to slow down and just have a think about their own priorities. There are people who now realise that the frantic chase after the almighty dollar is not the only reason we are on Earth.

The borders will reopen eventually, business will get back to how it was (whatever that was) and life will start again with perhaps a few people a little bit wiser. Issues such as how many students we can fly in from overseas and how many tourist organisations can get a hold of my wallet are lost on me.

Having said all that, I do wonder what will happen to those "boarders" I keep hearing about. Where are they going to live or even survive if they are opened up.

The number of Covid 19 cases in states/territories with borders open versus those with closed borders gives a good indication of why some borders stay closed.

I think a lot of the reply's to JaaDee are a bit selfish really, only thinking of themselves, what about all those business that are going broke each week while the borders are closed.
All their customers are kept away, while the person in the top job has a guaranteed wage and dose not have t worry about money, just give themselves another raise.

How many more will go broke if the border is opened and there is a spike leading to a reinstatement of full lockdown .I still wouldnt be betting the sheep station on a july 10 opening either it has not been confirmed by the premier , also a possibility of a partial opening excluding nsw and vic because of there numbers of ongoing cases .the stories not over yet folks .

But...

I am happy that the West Australia borders are closed.

Speaking on behalf of my state only

In my opinion, our country towns, and its second biggest city, do not have the medical facilities, to cope with a full blown Coronavirus outbreak

I live in the second largest city, of Western Australia
We have two hospitals, side by side, (government, and private), and a large car park

My wife was recently hospitalised

During lockdown, (no elective surgery, visiting hour restrictions, etc), the hospital car park, adequately catered for hospital visitors

Yesterday 19 June 2020, around 2 pm, that car park was chock a block full, as I am led to believe elective surgery (in WA), has been increased by 50%

I have been through a lot of Australian small rural towns, what springs to my mind, is that none of them, have the medical facilities, to cope with a full blown Coronavirus outbreak

Without digging out any facts, my observations tell me, to keep borders closed, until this Coronavirus is eradicated

I don't blame them. Much as I want to start travelling again. Particularly, with regards to Victoria. sorry Vic but you are not looking too healthy. If the premiers think they can survive without the rest of Australia, then good on them. Go For It. Just stay away from china to finance yourselves. If you dare use them then I'll be really upset.

intrastate instead of interstate. Trouble is these people will be paying for a lot more POWER

Everyone gets excited about comparing figures from each state. But they fail to acknowledge that Australians coming back from overseas are all coming via Sydney and Melbourne. Including Queenslanders etc. So getting ****y about infection and quarantine rates/numbers is a pointless exercise. NSW figures include Queenlanders returning.

It's so sad that politics is now destroying lives all in the name of preventing the spread of a virus that is killing fewer people than the flu.

The NSW/Queensland border is as leaky as a barbed wire canoe. Almost anyone can apply online for a pass and drive across the border. I have a pass. 2 simple questions and you get a pass. Hundreds of people a day crossing over the border with almost no checks.

And thats my concern. Had a couple near us with victorian number plates who told me they got an exemption as they had been staying just south of the border in nsw for a few weeks prior.

All states have thousands of beds(hospital) waiting for people to catch covid, seems 99.99% of Australians are not so good at catching it.

You want to stay under the doona, then do so, let the rest of us get on with our lives.

I am afraid I cant even agree with the title of this topic.

I think if anyone cares to do some research Annastacia P is very popular in her sensible stance to keep the borders closed until the southern states can show that they have controlled China Virus numbers that are being increased by social interaction.

I cant find it at the moment but there are statistics that separate the numbers infected from those coming into the state and isolating as opposed to those that are catching the virus socially. From memory, the figure for yesterday for Victoria was 15.
Of that, 8 were from people returning to Australia and 7 were from social transmission. Again, from memory the 18 cases from the previous day in Victoria were a similar ratio.

These numbers are not acceptable. At least for the Qld Premier and her heath advisors.

As for statistics, last I noted from figures released just recently, 68% of people in Qld were in support of closed borders.

On a side note I recently read from a post on here, the intention of a member to go into Melbourne for business I assume, then make his way to northern NSW. While I am sure no one wishes him any harm, the original advice of do not travel was put into place for this very reason.
The fact that Victoria and NSW appear to not give any care of preventing the spread of this disease, staying put and limiting any unnecessary contact is a proven way of control of any pandemic.

I am so pleased that the Qld Premier is putting Health before Wealth.

We all have our opinions on the current Qld Govt - mostly not so good but with the latest news from Victoria on the outbreaks of COVID19, Anna is doing the right thing - keeping us safe.

Yes, I feel sorry for those in the tourism business - especially the Gold Coast, Whitsundays, Cairns & Pt Douglas where tourism is their only industry, BUT how many people will die if the new outbreaks are not curtailed?

Shame on the Victorian idiots who have been seen to ignore the social distancing rules, going to meetings, work when they are COVID19 positive (mentioned by their Premier, this evening). I have quite a few relatives in Victoria but with the situation as it is, Victoria can be shifted south of Tasmania!

For us in large regional cities the thing that is going to sink this government is crime - youth crime! It took the deaths of four "kiddy crims" here recently to get the three local (Labor) MPs to wake up & take notice to what we've been saying for over four years!!

Setting aside the derogatory aspects of your post, I'm reminded that AP allowed local government elections to go ahead when the sensible decision would have been to postpone them. It seems that double standards are a way of life in politics. That said, I'm happy for travel restrictions to continue as they are, and even be tightened when necessary.

You do really need to learn how to use the QUOTE button on this forum but we will leave that there for now.

As you have once again appeared to single me out in these forum debates over the China Virus, and who is doing and not doing the right thing, I remember it was you who selfishly travelled against advice from all avenues of government and health officials just recently.

Your need to be in Qld apparently out weighed all the warnings from those in charge.

I should also remind you that political comments on this forum are against the rules but you seem to be beyond any need to obey them or any rules for that matter.

While many of us may agree or not agree with her stance on coal mines and other state objectives, this topic is not about that and with your less than polite description of the Premier even if it was, I am sure admin would have closed it by now.

Back to the virus, just have a look at Victoria this morning, they even allowed an AFL footballer to travel to Ireland and back. This sort of action beggars belief.
