Easing of travel restrictions / raising taxes

So from today Queenslanders can travel anywhere within the State. You beauty!

All to ourselves for a bit - no Mexicans to hog the sites! no

Actually I want to travel South to NSW, but am a bit worried about getting stranded there if the

border NSW/Qld doesn't open as anticipated in July (I think)

More importantly - What concerns do you have regarding taxes and other financial impositions

do you see on the horizon to restore financial credibility to the Gov?

Death Duties? Inheritance tax? Rego increases? Stamp duties increases? Fuel taxes? Taxes on savings/super, SMSF etc?

You can bet that they will go after us Greys! Easy pickings!

I thought:-You could always get back into Qld as a resident - just need to self isolate when back.

I may be wrong, but I don't think you can go up to the Cape in Queensland. The Commonwealth restricted areas are still restricted but the rest of Queensland is okay for travelers. Cheers.

Provided they havent returned from overseas travel in the last 14 days,or travelled,in the last 14 days,to a place recognised as a COVID 19 Hotspot I believe that Queensland residents have unrestricted access if returning to Queensland.Apparently there is an online document that can be filled in prior to your arrival at the border so that there are no holdups, and they don't need to self-isolate.A Google search will reveal the details.Cheers

Probably introducing Poll tax, Border tax exit & entry for each State, Regional tax exit & entry, Age tax, Away from home tax, Footpath tolls, will bring back the 1696 Window tax, & a new Oxygen usage tax!

Actually using the term Mexicans is rude. The rest of the country is being told how dire it is for Queensland as they rely so much on the 'Mexicans'. Perhaps the Mexicans might stay away in droves! biggrin

You might be right. Less parochial states seem to 'get it' with welcomed mutual support for each others tourism economies. What ever happened to all of Australia being for all Aussies?

I find the calling of Victorians Mexicans a little offensive , so what constitutes someone as being a Mexican,, is it where they are born, live or some other indistinct reason, maybe the rego plate on his car? Our family by birth consists of a Victorian, South Australian, Western Australian, Queenslander and a Northern Territorian, 4 of our family have served in the military, we are an Australian family.

Too true......and I believe that the term "Mexicans" originally was an American term, referring to those people who live "....south of the border, down Mexico way" from the USA.

I would suggest the only reason us "Mexicans" travel to Queensland is for the warm weather in winter. It is certainly not because of your civility. If you ask a Queenslander where he is from if overseas they will usually answer Queensland not Australia, says it all really! I could be offensive and call it the yobbo state but that would be taking the discussion down the wrong path.

I couldn't care less about puerile names & labels, all they do is reflect attitude. Most adults are mature enough to ignore labels, but they do remember attitude.

The real point is that the OP reckons their "sites get hogged" by outside visitors (I think that's the term he/she was probably looking for!) with a distinct inference that theyre an unwelcome nuisance. Visitors keep the economy going in Qld, a state more than any other thats currently being properly buggered without tourism. Outside visitors will be eagerly welcomed back there and in all states by those by who understand business and how the economy works, because none can survive purely on their local populations. Not too difficult to grasp. Whilst parochialism equates to ignorance, inclusiveness is a sign of intelligence. Travellers will take their holidays and their business to places they feel welcome.

By the time they lift the restrictions it will be too hot & uncomfortable in Queensland, so, we will probably just do our usual summer thing and give QLD a miss this year and then, maybe next and maybe next....looks like a lot of free camps are closing in favour of paid and CP's all over are getting more expensive.  Those UCamps are a rip off.   Your beaches are not that great.  Full of crocs and sharks and smelly mud flats.

And I forgot the Stingers, midges and ticks!!

and what about the baits and snakes and and.... you could get killed there.  lol.

Usually we leave Nth QLD at the end of September and spend 2 or 3 weeks in SE QLD before crossing the border into NSW late Oct, heading to the Southern states for the summer.

Personally, these days I'm a FIFO traveller, I fly into QLD in April and fly out to NSW in November or early December, depending on the weather and temperature.
The cycle repeats itself annually, so I am a 'DOUBLE AGENT'.
