Hi all, we are buying our first van and the dealer wants us to buy the ozone shield protection. Is this product worth the money they are asking, yes its up there, or can we just maintain it ourselves. Any feedback would be most welcome, cheers.
Welcome to the gang Glenn, enjoy here and out in the playground.
I have never heard of 'Ozone Shield' protection but I have heard of 'Vantec'. I was told about it when researching for my aluminium teepee. It is a protective coating from the elements. The person who told me was a trusted friend who unfortunately has ridden on ahead now. He had it for 6 years and his van looked new. It repels water similar to a wax.
I was so impressed I had it done to my aluminium teepee during the build. For memory it was around $1000.00. It is now nearly six years old and still looks new (when clean) and looks like there is still life left. It is so easy to clean van too. I reckon it was well worth it and might consider having it done again when needed.
Keep Safe out there.

If I was buying a new van with aluminium sheet panals I would personally not but my current van which has aluminium dibond flat panals which is three year old has stains from bats and some discoloration from the weather .If it comes with warranty i would if you are intending to keep your van for a while

A lot depends on where your van will dwell. How much acid rain, alkali pollution and chemical fallout will your van be exposed to?
My aluminium van still looks like new after 3.5 yrs in the open, all seasons. Never parking under trees and applying a coat of carnauba wax on it once a year takes care of the main offenders i.e. bird poo, UV and occasional salt air. I use the same treatment on my cars and avoid commercial car washes with their corrosive chemicals. Never had a need for overpriced coatings.

Someone opened their car door at I was driving past, bending the side of the bonnet, quarter panel & door. First I thought paint was taken off. The smash repair wiped the surface, not a scratch through the paint. The edge of their door skated over the paint surface which had carnauba wax. The dark colour wiped off the paint.
What I do have all over the car, especially on the front, is stone chips. So some rock tamers & aluminium tread plate, & car rear window armour will be of far better value.
I would suggest you use Ormonoid Bitumen Paint, this is a bitumenous silver paint with aluminum flecks in it, we painted the roof of our 25 ft 1 liter was enough, it tends to reflect heat making up to 5 degrees cooler than non painted. Easy to do I done the cut in with a brush first, and then used a roller to fill in.
This is a very thick paint it's best you use a paint stirer in a drill, to mix the Bitumen and Ali flakes together.
