Caravan Insurance

This a story with a twist. I will try to keep it short, and hopefully may help someone at some stage.

We sold our home in March to downsize, have plans drawn, council permits received and will hopefully be in by Christmas.

Plan A was to travel down south of WA for 6 weeks, house sit for 2 months for friends going to Cape York; then up north to Broome/Kimberly's for the dry season, then back in time for new home handover; then party time.

So we are now on plan B. Parked up behind our friends shed.

I added a full annex (4.5 Mtrs) last week to keep out the winter stuff, then fired off an email to the van insurance company to advise them of the addition, notify them of change of address and that we were now living in the van full time (I had layup months Dec - April) So really I was just checking that all was good.

So this is where it got interesting: They informed me that they don't insure vans for "on site" and cancelled my insurance immediately, but effective from 27th April in order to give me time to obtain insurance. cry I think I may have added a few words as well.

Made a few phone calls around a few insurers and found they have different rates for onsite and touring. And a healthy difference in costs.

Just insured with SGIO who have only on category which is Touring, and if you are parked up for ANY length of time that is Ok.

I thought I would put it out there for those who may like to check their coverage.

Regards.

Hetho.

we have both van and vehicle insured with Ken Tame but this year it has gone up by $300 with reduced value so have been shopping around and have saved $400 using AAMI
