With government expenses up hugely and income down also by a huge amount I think the chances of getting rebates on registration on something that many people wouldn't have been using anyway are pretty low. Personally I think van rego is the least of most peoples worries.

I wouldn't hang by the big toes, or other parts of your anatomy, waiting for this. In fact watch rego costs rise once this is over as government scrambles to regain some lost revenue.

When we deregister a vehicle Caravan/RV/Car etc, we have to fill out a form, and hand the plates in
I will assume that we could ask for the remaining rego money, to be refunded, but I am not sure

Before we are allowed to re register any vehicle, which has run out of rego, we have to take it over the pits

In my opinion, because caravan/RV rego is cheap in WA, compared to motor car rego
It would be better for me, to leave my vehicle registered, rather than go through the rigmarole of taking it over the pits

I am aware that for whatever reason, some states have much higher rego than WA, and have to go over the pits each year
So it may be cost effective to deregister the Caravan/RV, in those states

I throw the following info in, just as a bit of a curve ball, going only from my own experience

In the overall cost of my travelling, the rego payments, are at the very bottom of my expense list
If I urgently needed to deregister my RV, to save some money, I would probably decide, that I did not have enough in my budget, to go travelling

May depend on state rules. For example, here in Qld, we don't have to get yearly mechanical checks like in NSW. But if you want to register a used van, you need to get a full roadworthy and gas certification - probably more than the money you would save if you want to hit the road at a later date.

TONY&Bev That is prety right we have our tug reg in WA 5TH wheeler IN Vic NSW licence have been to court over it & was thrown out because I told Beak WE are Itinerant travelers

Don't think we will be asking for a discount. We both received the Economic Stimulus package, and we both own a car which we get a 50% discount on registration, and we get free public transport.
Nothing to grizzle about here

Tony Bev, this is the only way to get money back from Dept of Transport

Might as well ask the 'van manufacturer for a partial refund too, Or the tyre retailers etc etc, Or the fuel companies. Or insurance companies. I wouldn't be holding me breath waiting for a favorable outcome from any of them,

In SA we can simply cancel the rego and TPP and get a cheque refund for what is left, then re-register over the 'phone whenever we want for an extra fee of $20. No inspection, hold the plates.

Most insurance companies offer Lay Up"" coverage which means your rig is covered but only in its home location. Generally on a month by month basis. You simply tell them that you want to go back on the road and pay the extra cover. Just a thought!!

Why bother in Vic the van is about 60 bucks and Ute is about 280

Dont know about registration but today I contacted NRMA Insurance in regards to not being able to travel because we are stranded in WA as full time traveller unable to return to NSW , they offered me 6 months refund on our caravan insurance as from the date we stop travelling. if we are able to travel before the end of the 6 months we just need to contact them.
