Help! We have a Sphere reversing camera on our Jayco and we previously had it hooked up properly via an auto electrician when we had our Ranger. We now have a Colorado but didn't bother with the car wiring because we'd rather use the human method when reversing than the technology one. But, we decided to hook up the camera and do the wiring in the Colorado ourselves. Only three leads from the Sphere over mirror screen - earth, power and camera coax. Connected earth to chassis, ran power to tail lights, coax to new rear plug ready to connect to caravan. Checked to see if screen would turn on even for just a blue screen with the camera not connected but nothing. Checked connections with micrometer, power working back to inline fuse, fuse okay, checked earth. Still no power to screen. Even hooked it up to caravan to see if completing the camera circuit made a difference. Still nothing. What are we doing wrong? Screen is basically brand new so don't think it's a faulty screen.
I am a little worried by the micrometer bit.
Personally I would use a multimeter - 16 - 20 volt range across the +ve and -ve for checking to see whether the circuit is alive,
and if in doubt:
on the 500mA range in the positive line to see if the camera comes alive while you are at the monitor end or somewhere in between.
As for the coax, remember that there is an inner wire to carry the signal, plus an outer shield that may be needed to connect to the shield on the monitor input.
You said you connected power source to tail lights, I assume you mean reversing lights. My Colorado is not wired with a reversing light through the trailer plug. Are you aware if your is. Simple test, does the caravan have reversing lights that work when the Coli is in reverse. And have you grafted that lead to your camera.
I replaced my unreliable bluetooth camera with one of these wireless cameras. It was an easy job and I relocated the camera to a better position. Connected to the tail light. Works amazing and is much clearer. I run all the time while driving. Cheap to replace if needed. Highly recommend it. Cheers Stew
