Toyotas 2013 to 2019 - fuel pump recall

More than 45,000 Toyota vehicles have been recalled over concerns a defective fuel pump could increase the risk of crashes, but potentially dodgy parts may not be able to be replaced for months.

https://mobile.abc.net.au/news/2020-04-07/toyota-landcruiser-prado-recalled-over-defective-fuel-pump/12128104

The fuel pumps on popular Toyota models such as the LandCruiser, Prado, Camry, Corolla and Hilux models manufactured between 2013 and 2019 could stop working at any time, causing them to stall.

"A loss of power while driving could increase the risk of a crash, which may cause injury to the vehicle occupants and other road users," the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) said.

Very quiet, 92 views so far and not one comment. Now if the topic had been about Jeep....

Seems to me that fuel pumps on vehicles have been failing since the year dot, so why is it now a cause for recall. I remember it was very common on commodores to replace fuel pumps, but they had served their time.

And petrol only as well which would explain the lack of interest as most would be diesels for those towing.

Just showed this to Rob, my husband, and his comment was,

I will wait until Toyota advise us of the need to have our pump replaced.

Our vehicle is a diesel.

Not sure why you think I'm in a closet mate? I don't have problem with Toyota's, had three in the past. Been there, done that. The point is, if the report was about Jeep or indeed LR, knockers would abound, as you well know smile

Eaglemax- you need those old fashioned clothes driving a 2001 Falcon. A good match. Did they have the 2-speed automatic in those days or did that come later?

Yep , 4 speed , built in Albury by the then Borg Warner, who despratley wanted Ford to upgrade to at least a 5 speed. The writing all ready on the wall for Aussie Cars

I took the engineer that worked for Borg Warner and who developed the 4 speed auto for Ford, fishing. Like me, he was a fly fisherman, and we had a trip to the Snowy Mountains. I was told that it was quite a big deal developing a 4-speed auto box. I guess that it pales into insignificance now with vehicles fitted with a 10-speed box. Anyhow, it was good in its day. How did you know all this, Craig?

G'day Trev,
I live in Albury, so some knowledge. I once worked for a company that transported their gearboxes to Adelaide for Chrysler in early 1980's. Then had a Falcon with a 4 speed that s..t its pants well out of warranty. B W were very helpful with some "test kit parts" to assist with repairs. Nearly forgot , also worked for the mob that constructed the original factory in 1970, maybe into 71.

It was s joke folks 2trout think you are referring to my JBA Falcon tourer built in 2001. Then everyone thought you were mentioning a Ford Falcon which is much different. Redfin are biting well at Lake Colac
