Coronavirus - Some good news stories

We have heard some very sad stories about this COVID-19 virus

The saddest being that at the time of opening this topic, there has been over 1,000,000 people who are positive, and over 53,000 deaths worldwide

Some people have (in my opinion) turned inwards, and for use of a better word, have turned hoarders/savages/I'm all right Jack/etc

But...

There are still some good people out there, such as:-

150 Tunisians self-isolate in factory to keep making medical masks for doctors
They gave up self isolating with their families, to ensure that medical masks were still being made
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-52068520

Mr Musk purchased 1,255 ventilators from China. He said his company would be giving all its ventilators away "whether we buy them or build them".
Mr Musk pledged to reopen Tesla's gigafactory in Buffalo, New York - which builds solar cells - and repurpose it to manufacture additional ventilators.
The ventilators will be going to New York, which require 30,000
I will point out that other American car manufactures, who are also making ventilators, have been accused of overcharging

My comment were too long so I will add some more good news stories

UK has pledged £210,000,000 to help find a vaccine for the coronavirus
I am taking this on face value, just in case it is not true
https://metro.co.uk/2020/03/26/uk-worlds-biggest-coronavirus-vaccine-donor-210000000-pledge-12461332/

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-03-29/toowoomba-students-ditch-classroom-for-kitchen-during-covid19/12098142

China says that there are no more new cases of the virus at their epicentre.
They are allowing people from outside to go back to their homes.
I read elsewhere that they may start lifting restrictions, around 8 April
Is this the light at the end of the tunnel

Still some more good news stories

Some farmers are allowing Grey Nomads to stay on their land, during coronavirus shut down

Clampdown on foreign investments to prevent international raids on Australian assets amid coronavirus pandemic
This should hopefully ensure that countries in a better financial position, do not buy more of the farm, from underneath us

A lot of hospitals in India, do not have piped oxygen, here we have Indian engineers, designing a low cost ventilator to save Covid-19 patients
I would also assume that a lot of outback nursing posts, also do not have piped oxygen

I am sure that there are many more good news stories, I have missed

Tony,

A good idea to post a good news story. I wrote the the TV news service we watch, and suggested they get these stories out there to lift spirits.

The one I like, and we should concentrate on more is this.

At this time in the world, about 5 people in 100 who are infected badly (remembering many may be infected and show no symptoms) die. That figure is higher in some countries unfortunately, and lower at the moment in others like Australia. But it shows that 95 in 100 are recovering. That is worth concentrating on!

I forgot about those who survive Ian (The Heaths)
The picture tells a short story about COID-19 inside Australia

If my maths are correct only about half a percent, (28/5350*100) of those who caught it, have actually died from it
This is probably better than some other countries, but to keep everything in perspective, RIP to those who have died

So far nearly 11% (585/5350*100), of those who were positive are now negative

Our ex neighbour, who is an Emergency Dept Nurse in our local hospital has adopted us, virtually as surrogate parents. She is doing all our shopping an errands. She reckons it is too dangerous for an old fart with severe asthma to venture out, and when he did, she blew hell out of him! But she is so good to us....

Chas Licciardello's parting comments on Planet America last night (April 3) cast doubts on China's and the WHO's truthfulness. For one thing, it was claimed that Taiwan informed the WHO about the nature of virus transmissions, but the WHO ignored them for political reasons. It was claimed that this lost us one month in the fight against the virus. Also, the spokesman for the WHO deliberately switched off an interview to dodge questions from a Hong Kong reporter. Some really smelly sh*t there . . .

Taiwan informed & asked for information from WHO right from the start but due to politics Taiwan has been sidelined from the rest of the world.

Taiwan had no choice but to fend for itself so 2nd January activated its emergency response centre. Taiwan has a similar sized population as Australia, probably a country we should be benchmarking.

Why do I think that this is good news

I think this story is good news, as it indicates that some leaders, are actually learning a few things

Domestic mask production ramps up

The Queensland government has commissioned Brisbane-based manufacturer Evolve Group to become the states first-ever manufacturer of N95 surgical masks.

Health Minister Cameron Dick said it was a long-term contract to ensure the states frontline health workers would never again be left vulnerable to worldwide shortages in vital protective gear.

Story is buried inside the ABC News, live updates, and I have underlined what I think is the good news, part of the story

I consider this a good news story, as we all know that there is a shortage of medical supplies, so every little bit helps

Edit as I have just come across another good news story

Coronavirus pushes Government to commission 2,000 new ventilators for Australian ICUs

Although, in my opinion, this should have been done, as soon as we realised that we may not have had enough of them, if the virus escalates

Credit where credit is due, as any manufacturing we make here, will only enhance our country

NZ PM and ministers agree to 20 per cent pay cut

New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, ministers in her government and public service chief executives will take a 20 per cent pay cut for the next six months given the economic impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

"This is where we can take action and that is why we have," Ms Ardern said in a news conference announcing the decision.

She said the decision was made in light of the economic challenges New Zealanders are expected to face in the coming months due to the impact of COVID-19.

94 year old Lady, beats the Coronavirus

This copy and paste says it all

Maureen Appleby says she always wanted to be a movie star, and at the age of 94 she finally got her chance - but realised it was probably not for her.

With television cameras in tow, doctors and nurses lined Melbourne's Austin Hospital exit on Wednesday afternoon as Ms Appleby was wheeled out, having successfully beaten a bout of COVID-19.

Ms Appleby received a guard of honour as she left the Austin Hospital on Wednesday.

"I couldn't believe what they did. I don't know where those people came from," she said of the glamorous farewell.

When they did it and did it two or three more times I said 'I don't want to be a movie star

This (in my opinion), is a good news story, as we can never have too much PPE for the health workers, while the Coronavirus is around

More face masks will be distributed to healthcare workers after Australia received 58 million of them for the national medical stockpile.

Some of the masks were imported from China over the past few days
Health Minister Greg Hunt said nearly 22 million masks from the national stockpile had already gone to healthcare workers
The bigger stockpile of PPE is an important factor in preparing to resume elective surgery

The personal protective equipment (PPE) has been procured in recent days, much of it imported from China.

New Zealand is reporting that they have broke the chain of transmission, of the Coronavirus
They are on level 4, (they went in hard and fast), and will (in the not too distant future), come down to level 3, which is same as Australia

South Australia, is reporting they have gone 3 days without any new positive cases

Western Australia, is reporting they have gone 1 day without any new cases

This is much better news than some other countries

Edit to point out, any sailors tested positive, on any cruise ships, in Australian waters, are not counted unless they are being treated in Australian hospitals

The above facts are buried within a live update, link below

Good news that we can now make a local Australian ventilator, and make it quickly
The ventilator may not be the ants pants, but if it serves the initial purpose of keeping people alive, then in my opinion, we are on a winner

It looks like there are no more patients in Wuhan hospitals, where the Coronavirus started

This is good news to my way of thinking, because it means we have a chance of eventually, controlling this virus, in other places

Copy and paste
No coronavirus patients remain in hospital in Wuhan, where the virus first emerged, according to China's National Health Commission.

But the risk of imported cases remains high and cluster outbreaks have been reported in some places such as north-east China's Heilongjiang Province.

The news comes as schools across China begin to reopen. Only teachers and students who return a negative test result and do not have symptoms are allowed to enter the schools.
