A mate has just told me about this little device called MT Tracker BBQ. Sits under the gas bottle via magnets and transmits accurate info on gas levels via an app to your phone.. Go to BOC Gases site for more info and download. App is a separate download.

I just use one bottle till it runs out then switch to the full one & do a refill. If I am about to head away from supply I might use the hot water test & only act if it is almost empty .. at least that's my strategy. Sometimes a bottle will run out while SWMBO is having a shower but that's not a problem as it only takes a few minutes to change over & restart the HWS. & she tells me what a clever person I am. LOL
If at home, when any BBQ bottle runs out I replace it with the part used one from the van & then put the refilled one on the van & mark it with refill date, switching the bottle selector tap to the other (probably full) one.
We have a CEM auto change over regulator that changes over to the other bottle when the one in use empties without supply being interrupted. One bottle lasts on average about 14 days, so after this time a daily check of the display window tells when the change over has occurred. We then have a window of a fortnight to get a replacement or a refill.

Same with us. Gas Fuse Gauge, gives me an indication of what's in the cylinder (Roughly) and just change over usually when it runs out. Only takes a minute or two. We have the gas only for cooking so it's not that critical.
