But nicely please :)

I think I have almost sorted out the new tow vehicle and, in a month or two, intend to take my caravan and head north from Melbourne.

I have been a full time nomad for 12 months so have some experience and with the new vehicle intend to do a long trip over the winter "up north".

There's just me, no wife or pets and I have a lot of bush experience and am more than happy to go well off-road with my low-range 4WD and semi off-road caravan. I don't need caravan parks or mobile phone coverage or towns except to restock water and food every couple of weeks or so.

I'm thinking of wandering up the east coast, or a bit in-land, but no plans yet. I have travelled through the NT and FNQ in a 4WD previously and am comfortable in those environments, of course the Snowy River SR-19 caravan cannot go where a solo 4WD can but it does OK.

Places to visit? Your thoughts good people please.

So much of the east coast has been burnt. You could either support those places by visiting, or wait a year or two until they are looking more attractive.
Have you been to the Warrumbungles? Lightning Ridge? Carnarvon Gorge NP? The Qld coast has lots of wonderful places to visit - if you can get in before the rush hits in the middle of the year.

Darwin in May 2016 was a sweat box, make the far north mid June and later. We like the most time inland in the great dividing range with a quick visit to the coast not the other way around. Small towns are great. Eg Camp at Apex Park Premer NSW and walk to the pub for a top meal or burger take away. Tony

Hi Mike,
I assume you may have bought/are buying a vehicle capable of going off the bitumen.

And your hobbies/interests are?? Look up the net for places to persue them. Or get some binoculars & go bird watching & let that control where you go.

Anywhere up the coast, across The Top, Northern WA in the DRY season is good but some places could be crowded, expensive or both!

Or head north & west in NSW, Qld. Winton/Bladensburg National Park, check out Adele's Grove/Lawn Hill NP - ah that's "paradise!" Normanton/Karumba will be booked out already at a guess, Georgetown, Croydon - lots of history there plus an interesting rail-motor train; Forsythe - Cairns (also another interesting train trip).

Open a map of Australia & see where you haven't been ever or a long time ago & check to see what can be seen in those areas. Fuel will be expensive in more out of the way places.

You may meet up with others doing a similar trip. We met with a couple from Victoria on the Birdsville Track (as it was then, in 1976) & we are still friends! We had stopped for a photo & they pulled up behind us. On that trip we saw two other vehicles, our friends & a station vehicle out of Clifton Hills.

Don't take chances, drive to conditions - you will see plenty who don't.

Have a fantastic time in planning & on the trip.

Boulia in mid-July for the camel races.

A great weekend. In fact we get there a little early as there is plenty to see and do around the area.

Also the trip out there and back east is worth spending a few weeks on no matter which way you go.

Longreach, Winton, Bedourie, Birdsville, Mt. Isa, can all be included if you have the time.

Visit around Batemans, Kiama Area . Go north as it cools down . South East NSW is nice . Needs all the visitors they can get . Very friendly area also . Dont be put off by the fires . In weeks and after the rain . They recover very fast ! Check Camps book ? Camps 10 ? Inland or on coast ? Some of the best in the world !

 Don't expect to find much in the way of free or low-cost camps. In all Australia, this area ranks as very poor to devoid of camps. It's pretty much

holiday parks or nothing.  For instance - Kiama showground - $55 for a powered site !!!!! Must think they are on the barrier reef - even there is cheaper.
