Towing mirrors, which ones

Clearview mirrors. Expensive but the only way to go in my opinion. I had mine fitted at place of purchase as I would have buggered it up.

Clearview are the only way to travel. I would never leave home without them. Worth every cent.

Um, I can't leave home without them anyway cos they are a fixture on the Collie.

I love my clearviews, best investment ever for my lifestyle.

Yep hard to beat after having either made or had, a half doz different types. Been towing for close to 60 years.

Only problem Is the second mortgage required to buy the things.... smile Me, I fitted them easily and wouldn't tow with out them.

I purchased a pair of cheap, rubbish, SCA (strap over the back of existing mirrors), back in 1998 - The same pair of mirrors have been permanently attached to three Patrols since. The mirror stalk slides in and out when going to shops or city "bobtail". Travelled many, many corrugated 4WD roads with no movement of mirrors, overtaken by many trucks, road trains with enough wash to move vehicles yet no movement of mirrors.

Summary; Legal, Effective, Cheap. Had I fitted expensive brand name it would have cost me every vehicle change-over.

If you are setting up a vehicle that you intend to keep for 5 to 10 years (or at least for a long time, I'm trying to say) then Clearview or similar are the way to go.

I had a set of cheapish 'Orica' for 10 or so years & with a mod to stop them folding in & an extension arm, they were good until the 'rubber' straps started to deteriorate.

The current set are the pommy Milenco Grand Aero's and they are a step up from the "Oricas'.

I would certainly recommend them if you don't want the expensive Clearviews.

I bought those Pommy Milenco mirrors - if you have an Isuzu, DON'T!!

Another vote for clearview. I looked at it like a pair of good mirrors was only a small percentage of the cost of the car and caravan. Regards Pete

+1 for the Millenco's. They work well on a Ranger. The Clearview are the ultimate if you can afford the second mortgage and the big ears look to the car. They won't clear my garage door.

Another vote for the Milenco's good bit of gear and a reasonable price . the clearviews ( and i have had a pair ) have there drawbacks , size and width when not being used for towing being the biggest problem .

I have a set of Milenco's. They do the job.
I think how much towing u do is a big part of the decision along with when next you will buy a tug.

I struggle with the cost of the clearviews . However if you search there is a copy out there

I have a set of Milenco's, and while I would say, if you are intending to buy a rear view camera etc, then I would say buy the clearviews, I will say that with the Milenco's, while taking them off and putting them on is a nuisance, I have the mirrors set vertically, this way I can see the wheels of the van and how close I am getting to curbs or the shoulder of the road. I find the std mirrors quite adequate for the rear view to see traffic.

Being able to see traffic is not enough.You must be able to see both rear corners of the caravan,and an area 4 metres wide at a distance if 20 metres from the mirrors.Cameras are not acceptable.Cheers

We put Powerfold Clearview on our Colorado.
Expensive but paid for themselves over and over again.
EG, not having to get out and fold them in every time you go into car parks and other tight places

Having for years travelled very happily with the TRUCK style strap on mirrors on the 80 Series, we have employed them on our new 2nd hand Disco4.
Not real kosher to some!
However the AULRO forum has several folks who have replaced their expensive Land Rover Mirrors with Clearview as the Clearview are said to be far cheaper than the Land Rover when the existing mirrors have been broken for what ever reason.

Those owners are reportedly VERY happy with the Clear View products replacements.

So that's what we will do when / if the time comes.

Have had both the Supercheap ones and Clearview.

Needless to say, I find the Clearview are much the better for both clear vision (no vibration) and view.
