Diesel particulate filters


HI all, I am considering buying a Prado to tow my camper trailer and was wanting to avoid buying a model fitted with a diesel particulate filter, as I live on a small island, so can't carry out the required burn off. So does anyone know which year that Toyota introduced these filters. I've tried searching online but haven't found an answer. Thanks in advance for any input.

Are you in Australia ? The answer might vary with country of first sale, it does with several other Toyota models. Most 2018 onwards diesel Toyota are fitted with a DPF burn switch and in recent models it can be retro fitted. from what i can make out on toyota web site the first dpf was fitted to a prado in june 2015

You may well be correct,but the Toyota site that I accessed states that DPF was fitted to the 200 series in August 2015,and in August 2016 the unbreakable 70 series got them.However,it seems that it was not until June 2018 that the first Fortuner,Hilux and Prado models were included in the programme? Cheers

Yobarr. You might be looking at the dates for factory fitted manual regeneration burn switches for DPF not DPF per se.

 You are right Doug....a bit more research showed that the "problem" period for Prados was from 5th June,2015 through to 1st June,2018,when the manual switches were fitted.Cheers.

Hi Gary...thankyou for your kind comment.Unlike some other forum members,always I am happy to learn from those who know more about a topic than do I.Because my car is from the pre- DPF era,and DPF is of little interest to me anyway,I wouldn't have even posted,but I was simply filling in time until a friend arrived,so I did a small amount of research.Cheers.

P.S "Yobarr" is spelt with 6 letters!

I think muzz would be better served by a petrol powered vehicle. Diesel engines with dpfs are meant to be driven, used, made work. Not meant to be a soccer mums car. Like yobarr my vehicle is pre dpf. While most of our work vehicles have them fitted. Never had a problem with a dpf work ute, but theyre a hard working vehicle, pretty much guarantee every one of them is overloaded. Even with a gvm upgrade. Vehicles are like a lot of things in life. Built for a purpose, Horses for courses. Regards Pete.

No dpf on this old 07 model but with regular services and no pussying around town diesels can last well. Short trips and probably a lot of idle time a petro would be better. Regards Pete

HI all, thanks for your time and knowledge. I would prefer to get a diesel as I intend on doing at least one lap of our continent, but between trips it will be doing very short runs-10kms at a time, so maybe a pre 2015 model Prado with low km's would work for me. And yes I'm in Australia,in Morton bay where the Brisbane River flows out to sea.
