Leaking mains water inlet

Afternoon all, got a bit of a problem with my van..... When out bush with my boy, I turned on my water pump to use the water from the tanks. I then heard a pouring water sound, I went outside and I noticed that when the water pump was running it was actually pumping the water out through the water mains inlet and onto the floor!!! I could put my finger over the the end of the inlet and the pump would draw the water through  as it should. But as soon as you tried to use any of the taps or shower the water would pour out again.

Has anybody seen anything like this before?!?!?! TIA

Hi gnftrs.

I have just rectified the same problem with my van.

I my case I found that there is a non return valve behind the mains water connection to the van.

You can purchase a new valve; however I pulled the valve apart and it just needed a new "O" ring.

Put it all back together and problem solved.

Regards.

Hetho.

Hi gnftrs, welcome to the forum

Had the same problem on my Jayco Conquest motorhome, same as in my Avatar, so probably same for Jayco, and some other caravans

Where you see the water pumping out to the ground, is a one way valve, where debris has probably kept the seat open

In my situation, (for whatever reason), they had connected the one way valve, and pressure regulator valve, together with loctite, and there was no way I could strip the valve to clean it

I used a thin screwdriver, to gently push the valve seat a few times, while the water was pumping onto the ground, I may have just been lucky, but it did work for me

An easy solution until you get to civilisation, is to reattach your water filling hose, and crimp it with wire/zip tie/hose clamp/string/something or other, this will stop the leak, while you are parked up

Another easy way is to fit a coin, into the female end of your hose connection, then screw just the connection, onto the caravan

Another easy (cheap permanent) way, is to fit a push on, John Guest one way valve, pictured below, anywhere along the water line of the caravan, where it is easy to get at
These one way fittings, and the original one way valve, can be purchased from just about any caravan place
The ultimate fix, is to renew the one way valve

Hope that the info is helpful, and that you come back and let us all know how you got on

Tony,  loctite is easy to release to undo the joint.  just heat the joint up with hot air gun or whatever heat source you have, this softens the loctite and allows removal .

 Hi Triggy
I certainly thank you for your input, but I do not have a hot air gun, but did have access to oxy acetylene heat, through a family member

Being in the motorhome with everything set at an angle
I had to remove the complete calaboose, which was connected to the outside plastic shroud, just to get my spanners on opposite sides of the threads

They had loctite (or something similar), the one way valve thread to the fitting that goes through the plastic shroud, then they had loctite the pressure reduction valve thread, to the one way valve
There was also traces of loctite, on the threads which split the one way, and pressure reducer valves

With the pressure reduction valve in my vice, using the correct size spanners, I could not undo anything

Heat in this situation was not an option, as the plastic shroud could have buckled, and/or the rubber seals in the one way, and pressure reducer valve, could have been damaged

In the worst case scenario, I was looking at buying, a new outer plastic shroud, a new one way valve, and a new pressure reducer valve
I therefore had nothing to loose, by gently poking the only valve you can reach from the outside, without dismantling anything

I have no idea why Jayco, or a previous owner, would have used loctite in this area
