Broome C/Parks

Hi all,

Appreciate some info please, best spots for a week or so in Broome W.A. we have 2 small dogs also, also what's considered to be the best time of the year, we are thinking late June early July, but not sure if that time of the year is OK.

Thanks for any help

Regards

Dave & Maz

Generally Broome caravan parks don't allow pets. Last year Roebuck Bay was allowing pets for a trial, but nothing on their website now says pets so you would have to check. 20km out of town Broome Gateway allows pets, Tarangau allows pets in off peak times, but not in the peak winter season. Late June early July is peak season so you really need to book well in advance, particularly with pets.

Check out the Pistol Club and PCYC overflow camps - that's where we stay.

We stayed at the RAC Cable Beach Caravan Park in August this year. Absolutely fabulous, friendly staff, exceptional maintenance and cleaning, great facilities, and the big plus is NO midges. Cable Beach, IMO is one of the "must see" spots in Australia.

If you do a google search, or use Wiki, it says "no dogs"; however, during our 3 week stay, it appeared that a lot of vans had dogs. This included the vans next to us as well. It would be worth a phone call or email to confirm.

June to August is fantastic weather. I would book in advance as Broome is quite popular during these months.

Hope this helps.

Regards.

Hetho.

Broome is totally overrated IMHO, very poorly laid out, roundabouts everywhere and no one gives way to a Van, busy, busy busy. The best time to go is the wet season when its quiet, but too hot for tourists.

A few places worth a look, stay at Roebuck Roadhouse CP and drive in to do day trip. Cable beach is nice but full of yuppies and posers and busy.

The place is like a capital city in June/July/August.............. 25,000 extra people in town, locals leave for peace and quiet.

Cheers Bob

I would try to get there in late May/early June if possible - maybe avoid the worst of the busy period.
You may not need a full week to see the place.
Consider spending some time at Barn Hill Station camp ground, south of Broome, as well.

Spot on Bobdown. We saw all we needed to in about 4 hours and don't intend to go there again, there's plenty of better places on the WA coast.

We stayed at the Broome Caravan Park about 7kms out of town. It was the cheapest one with vacancies. It was a nice park and well maintained. Although one grumpy old man did nothing but complain it was third world quality and he was embarrassed to think this park was a bad example to backpackers and overseas tourists. No idea what he was on about.

Broome can be relatively expensive given that most of the town's income comes in about 6 months of the year. If you are going past, you may as well call in for a few days. To go so far without visiting is cutting off your nose to spite your face. Driving the 4WD down on Cable beach with a picnic and watching the sunset was worth the trip.

We both had to get scripts filled. What I needed was not in stock but an overnight cargo plane from Perth sorted that out. There mid-morning next day. I was impressed.

It's not a bad idea to book at least one day ahead when travelling May to November in North West WA. Unless you are free camping.

We stayed at the Tarangau Caravan park with our 2 dogs in August this year. No pool but the amenities were good and clean. Nothing is cheap in Broome at that of year. The local vet is also a boarding kennel if you want to do some non doggy tourist stuff.
Cable beach ( dog friendly for most parts is great. We cooked our dinner on the beach and watched the sun set.
Hope this helps
Cheers
Mal

That's great info from all of you, so thank very much, taken on board some suggestions on where to stay.
Possum 3, i was told about the Pistol Club & PCYC, that might be the go as I am a Member of SSAA & QMRC which might just help, The friends we are going with are thinking a week + in Broome ! I'm thinking 4 days would be plenty, & certainly not really interested in sitting on a bloody camel [just my opinion]

Cheers

I had 2 years in broome, would like to go back for another 2 to see what I missed first time. If you want to drive around the streets you can do it in 4 days, if you want to see broome you need longer

cheers

It's a big hippy town now with a tourist or 3 thrown in.
