Can anyone who has travelled across the Nullarbor recently confirm whether 'plastic' is available across the Eyre Highway?
We last travelled that way some 17-years ago. That time I was still working with restricted leave so with three drivers we did the trip in two days and nights. We paid cash all the way.
This time we will be slower, expecting to take around eight days with lots of stops and meals. Would prefer not to carry large amounts of cash with us.

I have had zero problems with purchasing fuel across the Nullarbor with VISA card , from memory one service station charged a 5% excess.
Purchasing food supplies and take away meals most of the outlets only used cash.
Safe to carry both, plus plenty of gold coins for laundry, donation boxes and entry in small museums.

We will of course have some cash but it will be more convenient to use a card.
My first trip across was in 1956 - one thousand MILES of dirt. But it was a real adventure in those days.
Those early days were all cash. A major problem with the various stops was that they were always short of coins and had to beg travellers to make up the cost with change and not hand over paper money.
As I promised the wife that she would have a break from meals while away we are intending to eat out as much as possible. That is a good tip to know about using cash for food.
We are heading for the National Caravan Rally at Albany via Perth. Maybe we will see others on the road.
Never had a problem using plastic anywhere across the Nullabor on the 4 trips we have done across in the past 5 years. We do always carry enough cash for a full tank of fuel plus a bit more in case eftpos is down, but haven't needed it on those crossings.
Card is fine . If it doesnt work . They zip zip the old fashioned way, doing it manually . Never had much more than $50 cash . Nullarbor, Or any main highway . Including North WA .
Plastic, but have been in two places recently, one with a network issue & the other the electricity was out. Both were still taking cash but some smaller stuff helps them with change!

Hi Long weekend 2 trips back at Balladonia you could get cash out of the ATM but not use a card for fuel both systems are on a similar circuit so I figured it was for the owners hip pocket so some cash is very handy. See you in Albany

Albany is nice, but have a look along South Coast to Denmark, Valley of the Giants and Walpole, all worth a look after the rally.
Plastic cards are fine as everyone has said, big breakfast at Nullabor Roadhouse is great but not much fine dining across there and watch out at the Border fruit and veg check.
We are prepared for the quarantine checks - the first just as we cross the Vic/SA border and of course the one at Eucla. Have been through both in past years. No fruit or vegetables and certainly no honey!
I wonder if they will be as thorough as going across on the Tasmanian ferry? They even have you raise the bonnet to check the engine bay!
We will do as much sight seeing as we can. Mostly we will be in Perth catching up with my family whom we haven't seen for a couple of years.
About 35 years ago we stayed overnight at the Nullarbor homestead as it was called then in our camper trailer. One memory of that was a tall tree on site that could be seen for kilometres away - the only tree around. Wonder if it is still there?

If you have a dirty 4WD you will be ordered to clean it at the Tassie end with supplied equipment, not a fun thing if you arrive at night!
Leaving Tassie they looked for guns under the bonnet of my car. Earlier this year.
