Just interested to hear from those that have a UHF, what brand it is and why you chose it. We have two Oricom handhelds which we chose because of the deal on offer and theyve been great and we have a car mounted Uniden which we chose because just about everyone we knew had Uniden and its been excellent.
The uniden I tried once had its mic exiting pointing outwards and it always got in the road of the gear lever - so out it went within 30 minutes of being tried [16 yrs ago]
Our GME is now 16 yrs old - it is the split-system version with the control box separate from the front face panel ... chosen as the dash has no space for a full sized radio box able to be fitted anywhere across the dashboard. We also have an extension speaker plugged into the earfone socket and the speaker is located on top of the dashboard pointing at the driver - it makes things much easier to hear too
We also selected GME for 2 other reasons ... a) being Aussie made it can be repaired -if needed- by almost any reputable workshop across Oz, and b) a small design aspect, where the microphone cable exits the panel sideways and does not interfere with my knees!! which are closest to the radio mic's installation spot.
During these 16 yrs the GME has been attended to twice - each for a $50 service fee ... once when it lost send capacity, the other time I can't remember, but it also was an easy 1/2-hour swap of a component. I believe that if the radio had been an imported one, it would have been yet another chuck-and-replace the unit situation - so it has been $100 versus $1000. Says a lot for AUssie made and easily repairable
Have an Oricom with the controls on the handset. Really happy with it. Good range and clarity. Came as a kit complete with antenna. Oricom are an Australian company too.
I've also gotta give a thumbs up to GME. They sent me out one of their new XRS radios some time back for a review youtu.be/TyBIs_BUsHM Whilst being very happy with the radio itself from a build and quality perspective, their responses to my questions and feedback was brilliant I must say. When I had to trouble shoot stuff, I was put in touch with the actual guys who worked on the gear and as such it was sorted very quickly. Basically, I just liked them as a company and being Aussie was bloody good too.
I don't have a lot of CB radios but have had a butt load of various amatuer radio gear and the little GME rig gets the thumbs up from me. great screen on it too
cheers Brett

My GME 3200 radio recently lost its night light and then the digital readout re channel selection partly failed but enough for me to have no idea what channel the radio was on.
I contacted GME and the radio was repaired in NSW(I am in WA) promptly and cost less than 100 dollars including postage.
The radio is about 7 years old and I thought I was probably up for a new one but this was about 6 months ago and everything is still working perfectly now.
GME here. Three different vehicles over 9 years and still good. Light on screen no good at night but don't do much night driving anyway. It is on all the time when car is turned on.

Have had them in both of my vehicles & the clarity has always been superb. Range is excellent as well as I only use decent antennas, none of the cheap stuff as they fall apart on rough roads
Have a cheap mini size Oricom that came as a kit from Repco for about $170 on special with antenna.
Have had it in the Cruiser for 4 years, and works well for what we do, and communicates with trickiest ok when needed. Very happy with performance and price. In fact got same unit for the son and mounted that in his Ute.
