Broken Hill

We're at Broken Hill at the moment, and being a maintenance fitter by trade, I wonder why they don't fix it ?

The thing that's broken is their water supply.  I read somewhere that the State Govt spent a motza on a new water supply but most of it went to the irrigators rather than to the local town supply.

Now that wouldn't be right in 'how good is Strala' land would it.  LOL .   Who said that Irrigators got a dud deal?   LOL

It's not a long walk to the broken hill from the town either. Just one block from the main street !! aww

Water I think comes from Wentworth on the Murray. Cost millions.

The "Hill" is one of my favourite places.

Hi Iana we are heading out to Broken Hill in a couple of weeks time can you recommend a good CP or place that we could use as a base to leave the van while we do day trips ? in my younger days I also earned a living as a maintenance fitter so if you can't find that broken bit maybe I can have a look while I'm out there - maybe it's an intermitant problem.

Cheers

We stayed at Silverton CP. Was open, relaxed and reasonable price at the time 5 years ago. If you don't mind being out a bit.

Hi BB, I can recommend the "Broken Hill Regional Events Centre" i.e. 220a Racecourse road. S 31.913708 x E 141.481538. The vans are put on the grass around the betting area. There are water only sites $20/night and powered sites available, un sure of the price. You would be advised to ring and book. This is set up as a proper caravan park, and has a caretaker. Very good amenities with hot showers. Not too far out of town. So you must be self contained power wise.

They tried to fix it locally, but the union rules made it too hard so they put it on a truck and shipped it out for repair, but it never came back. confuse

Cheers,

Peter
