I had heard around the traps, about a $10 a night (per self contained caravan), council run low cost camp, with water/toilet/dump point
The camp was going to be open until the end of August
On August 20, I made enquiries at the Karratha Tourist Information Centre I was informed that the camp was closed a few weeks early
I asked for the reason (in a nice manner), and was told that the caretaker closed it due to disturbances/noise/grey water being dropped on ground and attracting the ants
Yesterday August 24, in appreciation that this town, did at least try to offer something to the traveller I booked into a caravan park (Discovery Park on Rosemary Road), at $54 for two adults with powered site, for one night
The moral of the story is, that the few grubs, really do spoil it for the rest of us
Grey water on the ground can be a big issue in these camps as it forms a muddy mess that takes some time to dry out.
In one camp on the Nullabor, I had a bloke pull in right alongside us. He left early but when I came out he had let his grey water run everywhere and there was a large mud puddle right under the drivers side of my car. I was not impressed. If he didn't have a grey water tank it would have been very easy to run a sullage hose into the bush to where it didn't affect any body.
