What do you want at a caravan park.

I am staying at a caravan park, and the new owners want to set it up to encourage Grey Nomads, I have given my suggestions, but list yours and I will submit the ideas.

Basically what the wife wants in a caravan park, is a washing machine, and power for the aircon

What I want is water and a dump point

I can not think of anything else

A well set up and weather protected Campers Kitchen. Not just a BBQ, but with decent washing up facilities, cook tops, fridges, tables and seating, all weather protected. And for the cooler times of the year, some form of heating, preferably a wood heater! [And maybe a TV to watch the AFL/Test Cricket!] Add to that, be kid and pet friendly!

I'm going to add, clearly defined pathways to the ablution blocks to stop people from walking through your site.

A few drive through sites for easy departure on overnight stops
A few unpowered sites close to amities
Clean amenities
Camp kitchten that is clean and inviting
Real noise control ( mainly refering to people watching sport outside van with volume on full , where is the respect
Tolerant and helpful staff (I find 99% are)
Enclosed area to run dog (A very strict on lease policy when not in enclosed run)
You could make a list a mile long but mostly I think it would all boil down to a good attitude
cheers

Water, a dump point and no noise (particularly dogs), and a cost appropriate to that.
Nothing else.
Cheers,
Peter

Water

Power

Dump point

Clean Laundry at a reasonable price - $4/load  $2 drier, perhaps

Security

We value the view - bush or beach or even landscaping (we often choose a dearer park or site if it has a better ambience /view)

no dust

A community freezer is a bonus.   (I like to freeze a few water containers overnight for my 3w fridge when travelling in summer)

reasonable tariff (circa $20 to $30/night)

Certainly NOT Jumping castles, Pools, games rooms, mini golf et. al. ..  we don't use camp kitchens unless they are in a prime position.

We use our own shower & toilet.

Community events like pancake breakfasts or happy hours ...  love those bush poets & artists.

ps .. On reflection, I too prefer a more random site layout rather than a regimented 'sardine like' park aimed solely at maximising numbers.

A layout that facilitates ease of entry & exit as well as setting up.  eg.  enough room to do a reverse in without risking other campers. When on site A frame is high enough to fit jockey wheel.  I frequently have to dig a hole in the lovely grass to fit my jockey wjheel because of the slope of the site approach.  No drains across entry way etc that cause the tow hitch or rear corner steadies to drag.

Somewhere where we don't have to be lined up like sardines in a can.

$30 per night or less.

A bit of shade in Summer.

Like a few others -

Water
Dump point
Washing machines
Lap dog friendly

Don't need showers, toilets, kids playgrounds.

Cost to reflect those things only
$15-20

If up north a swimming pool would be good and an extra $5.

We actively seek out showgrounds, racecourses council parks etc where low cost is set $10-15 or donation. So better a caravan park with competitive cost covering our three needs at least the CP will get our cash.

Note!!!! Like many G.Nomads we are fully self contained. Sooooo.....

*   Drive through sites.

            OR

*   Ease of access to site

*   Water  (a Must so we can top up our supplies.)

*   Power  ( although our solar works for us.)

*   Laundry

*   Dump Point.

So therefore we require a very basic needs,  which therefore requires a very basic fee.

I too like drive thru sites, like villatranquilla I used to ask for site 21 at Smoky Bay, angled and you can stay hooked up, usually an overnighter only.

Good power, that can run more than a toaster.

Water that is drinkable.

Sites with a bit of room, so you can put the awning out without hitting a tree.

Parks that cater for Grey Nomads, Big 4 can cater for children and families.

BBQ, good ablutions and a dump point.

$30 to $40 in remote areas, or otherwise give a decent discount to seniors.

Happy to pay good money for good location and facilities...................Bob

IF you want to put codes on amenities and boom gates, that they are well illuminated and large enough to be able to see at night when we trundle across to the LOO with out our reading glasses.

That's a bloody good result Guys & Girls. Copied all the responses, and will submit the list. Late comers still have time to add.
Me I might add :- concrete plinth and wash down hose, pay for it though, Shelly Beach caravan park has this, and I like the user pays for water at Cooper Pedy, i.e. $2 for 60 liters.
I also need to do my own servicing of the van, but leave no trace.

And !!!!!!! nearly there to my 2000 posts !

Grey nomads , you guys are so funny..

Try hitting a caravan park with 3 kids and see what happens..

If I can get under 50 bucks I thank my lucky stars.

If you have a family you get extorted by CP.

mixo

P.s I'm talking about a CP with basic facilities, not your fancy resort type with pools and slides etc etc

Water, just water....The last one I went to at Gol Gol couldn't even manage that.

I booked a site with no power for a caravan for a week. They interpreted that out as he don't need water either.

One can only say that the manager is a non drinker and thinks every on is the same....biggrin

A level site is good

maintained, functioning and clean ammenities, age not a real issue

Dump point, but if not, nearby

A communal area, could inc camp kitchen, fire pit and bbq, possibly under cover

potable water accessible

and grass would be nice but not necessary

all at a good rate, possibly $10 to $15 unpowered, $15 to $20 power and water, all depending on facilities available at the camp site

I am surprised, or perhaps, not really surprised. everyone seems to want stuff over and above and under price, yet when a group of us fussy old buggers start rubbishing a caravan park, how high on our list are the Dunny & Shower blocks.
No matter what the price, or quality of the camp kitchen, wet soggy facilities with mud and grass clippings and beach sand liberally applied to the floors, inch deep in water and thats just the Toilet, minute shower cubicles with shared drains from next door, more wet floors, nowhere to put dry clothes or towels.... and the smell, from the toilet cubicle beside you where someone just discovered they actually do have a dead rat up there.....

gimme clean, DRY, roomy amenities, I can make the rest quite pleasant (water & power help).

Sarge

Level site.
Some sites with own ensuite.
Dog friendly with enclosed dog run exercise area. The Boomerang Park at Tocumwal is a great example of what we like.

Thankyou all, I have handed this list into management. They thanked you for your efforts. I don't know what they thought of what was written down, nor did I ask. But this thread may as well be considered closed.
Gee and we did this with out an argument. Quite refreshing.

Hiker/ Biker sites, for walk in and bicycle tourers/campers, at a reasonable rate of no more than $15, per night. Nothing that get's my goat the most is when I have a foot print, of no more then 2m X 2m, I get charged as if I am a big c/van, and have to pay $50 or more> These Hiker/Biker sites are the norm all over the world, but not here in Australia. Their are over 45000 cyclotourists in Australia and 25% of those are over 50. We don't need power, but need access to a toilet, shower and water, so unpowered sites. As I am a 60 yo c/vanner as well, a park that will allow pets, especially Assistance dogs(Service Dogs), these parks are very hard to come by.
